I have the Dyson Animal and love it. We have a combination of concrete and carpeted floors. It does a really good job on both. Especially since we have a black lab that sheds constantly. It is easy to use and empty and supposedly very allergy friendly.

I love the Oreck. I had one for about 8 years. The first time I used it, my mother though I'd had my carpets shampooed! When that one finally died, I got another. This one hasn't been quite so reliable - it's had some belt burning issues! I like that it's so lightweight - easy to maneuver.

We have the best vacuum ever! It's a little on the pricey side, but it's awesome!! It's one of the Dyson's. Before we got this vacuum, we had so many problems trying to get our old vacuums to pick up any pet hair. We have hard wood floors and area rugs. When we used the Dyson the first time on one of the rugs, it brought out the true color of the rug!! I kid you not, I forgot that it was a red rug!! I know there are a few different models of the Dyson, but we have the purple one. If you have pets, it's the best one for pet hair!! Good luck!

I have the Eureka Boss Smartvac and have been very happy with it. It isn't bagless, but I found my last bagless one to be a pain to clean. It was highly rated in Consumer Reports and reasonably priced. Gook luck!

I also have the Eureka Boss SmartVac. I've had it for close to 7 or 8 years. It's very powerful. I love it, especially how easily you can switch from floor to hose. the attachments are great. No parts have broken or cracked.
Spend the money and get a Dyson - they are fantastic. We bought ours at Best Buy (to get points) and they honored a 20% off coupon from Linen and Things.

I have a 25 year old Hoover Supremacy upright. Wouldn't change it for the world. If you want one that lasts (with kids, dogs, husbands) go to an actual vacuum cleaner store and spend a little bit more for something that you probably won't have to replace. They also fix vacuums if you are attached to the one you were currently using.

Love my Oreck. Light and easy. I willingly grab it instead of dreading vacuuming.

I got mine at the little cleaning store at Olive and Fee Fee in that strip mall on the NW corner. The woman has been there a long time and if you tell her what you need/like, she can help point you toward a good purchase. I'm happy with mine that I got a year ago.
I shopped there after trying the big boxes and being very unhappy with the sales peoples' knowledge of the products.
