Looking for a Great Hairstylist for My 5 Year Old Son

I know this sounds crazy but I can't seem to find someone to cut my 5 year old son's hair correctly. I've taken him to the kid places and to more adult places like Sports Clips but have yet to find anyone who cuts it so that it looks good.
My son has very straight, kind of thick, and straw like hair - if it's cut too short on the top back part it sticks straight up. I've debated about shaving it but I really don't want to. I'd really like for him to have it pretty short on the sides and then be able to do that semi-mohawk spike down the middle on the top but am afraid of having anyone do it because if it gets cut that short and doesn't look good then he'll look weird for a bit :)
I've kept it pretty long (almost in his eyes) for a while and we are having family pictures taken this next weekend and I'd really like to get it cut correctly. I took him today to get it done and it does not look good at the moment and must be redone before the pictures this weekend.
I know I'm sounding crazy but does anyone have a great stylist for their child that they might recommend?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

You might want to go to a Barber Shop. They know Men/boys hair the best and are more familiar with sheers. I take my son to The Barbershop in Keller. Love them!!

I don't have any specific recommendations, but as a former hair stylist I would suggest taking him to whoever you go to if they will take kids as clients. If his hair is a little tricky to cut and you are a little more particular about how it looks you might have to pay a little more to get exactly what you are looking for and go to a little more high end salon. Maybe go just this once since it is for pictures and then go somewhere else and let someone just continue to trim up the hair cut as needed. Good luck, hope this helps a little bit! :)

Katherine Szama is really good. She is in Lewisville at Main St. Salons. She has done both of my kids hair for 7 years.

Ive never had the lady that cuts my hair cut my daughters hair before simply because I dont plan on cutting her hair anytime soon. But she does a great job on my hair and Ive seen her cut kids hair before and has done a good job. Her name is Terri and she is in the supercuts in Plano off of Preston. Good luck!

Both my sons have curly hair which is a little difficult, too. I live in Denton and take my sons to Great Clips. The only person I let cut my children's hair is Karen. She is great with kids and does a wonderful job cutting their hair.

I take my whole family to the Great Clips in The Colony on Main St. I can't remember her name, because it is unusual, but she is the lovely asian lady with the first chair on the left. She does the BEST job. She's the only one I trust to do my hair--I let all my kids and my husband go to whoever, but when they end up with her, I always smile when I see what she's done with their hair, I don't smile after the others.

Good luck! and make sure to tell your stylist what you want and what his hair does. That helps alot.

We used to go to Katherine Szama. She is very good, but with 3 kids it got a bit pricey.

All 3 of mine have their Daddy's hair (thick - enough hair for 3 people each, course, straight as a board) and I have to find somebody willing to take the time to cut it correctly or the girls' hair looks awful and choppy. I take them to the lady that does my hair now. My son is a toe-head (white blonde) and it shows every scissor snip, so most kid stylist don't know how or take the time to cut it correctly. I found a lady at the Great Clips on 2181 in Corinth that is awesome with his hair! Her name is Tiffany (there are 2 of them, she is the younger one).

Good luck!

Hi D.:

I just had to read the responses you got b/c I, too, have had such a hard time getting my sons hair to look decent. It sounds like he has the same hair as your son. Unless it's shaved military style, it looks awful. He's in middle school now and he wants it longer.

We have lived in Coppell for 5 1/2 years now and have yet to find anyone who has given him a good haircut. ug. I feel your pain!

Thanks, K. & Amy! I will call Katherine!!!

D.: Can you re-post if you find someone??
