Looking for a Great OB That Would Support Natural Childbirth

Hello out there! I am brand new to the DFW area, and I'm looking for an OB/Gyn. I'm not pregnant yet, but planning to do InVitro Fertilization in the next few months, so hopefully...

Barring major complications, I would like to try to have a natural labor. I felt like my last OB was kind of impatient with that, and I ended up caving to him when my son was born, so I'm looking for someone who would be supportive - even if it meant it took longer.

I've heard really good things about both Drs. Julia Flowers and Troy New, but I don't really know that much about their style. Any opinions or new recommendations? Thanks a million. Everyone is so helpful and friendly!!

I love Dr. Rost who is in the same practie as Dr. New. If you go with either I know you will get the care you want.

My dr is great and supports any of my decisions. Their office doesn't practice VBACs either, but she knows I really wanted natural with my first but just would never dilate and had to have C-Section. She will allow me to VBAC this time if I go into labor naturally and everything progresses naturally because I would like to try again for a natural (meaning no drugs) birth. anyway. . . Dr. Walters at Women's Integrated in Grapevine is who I go to. She is just now going on maternity leave with twins, but she will be back in April (thank goodness since I'm due in May)!! She is wonderful!

I go to Dr. Troy New, and I LOVE him. He is so caring and genuinely listens to your concerns. When I was pregnant, I never had to wait long at my appointments, but when he did come in, he never seemed rushed to get in and get out.

I told him early on that I wanted to go natural, and he supported it. Towards the end, my baby was measuring big - at my 38 week appointment, he was already over 8 lbs. Dr. New asked me about inducing, and I told him that I'd rather not since I really didn't want Pitocin since it makes labor more difficult, and I didn't want to have to resort to an epidural or other pain meds. He let me have my way, but told me he really didn't want me to go past my due date.

Thankfully I went into labor on my own at 39 weeks 4 days. The nurses at Baylor Grapevine also supported my decision to go natural (which is also an important consideration since you really don't see the doctor until the end anyway), and they never tried to push the epidural on me. My 9 pound baby boy was born after only 8 hours from the onset of labor and I did it all natural!

Good luck with in vitro, and if you go with Dr. New, I know you'll love him!

Hi! I just had my baby girl 5 weeks ago and I used a midwife who is within a group of OB's here in Lewisville. She is very into natural childbirth and is very patient. She prefers to do as little intervention as possible unless medically indicated. I think you would love her. Her name is Heather Caudell, CNM and the group she practices with is OBGYN Assoc. of Lewisville. They have an office within Medical Center of Lewisville (which was a fabulous place to deliver) and one in Flower Mound as well. Their website is:
http://www.lewisvilleobgyn.com/index.htm. I think you will really like her and if your prefer an OB the docs in the group are excellent. My sister in law used Dr. Auers and just loved her. HTH and best of luck to you!!

M.,
I don't know where you are located, but the ob/gyn that I go to is Dr. Steven Harris. He is located across the street from Baylor Dallas off I-75 and Lemmon Avenue. He is THE most amazing, caring ob I have ever met. He is patient, kind, caring and really makes you feel like you are his only patient. He fully supports natural childbirth. I wanted to go natural with my son and unfortunately wasn't able to because he was breech.
I can't say enough good things about him. I have recommended him to all of my friends and all that have gone to him love him too! His # is ###-###-####. Good luck to you!

Doctors Kevin and Kathleen Doody at the Center for Assisted Reproduction in Bedford have treated my friends for infertility and they all RAVE about them. I think it takes a while to get in to see them. I think they have a website somewhere with information. It's in Bedford near HEB Harris Methodist ( a couple blocks away).

Have you thought about interviewing and going to visit some birthing centers/midwives?

Audrey Graham delivers at Baylor Dallas. She is pro-natural, pro-VBAC. She works with the midwives at Birth and Womens Center. although, you don't have to be under the midwives care to see her. She told me at our last appt. that she trusts in the wisdom of womens bodies (wow!) And she has over 20 years experience. Her number is ###-###-####.

Another doctor is Dr. Downey he delivers at Richardson Regional. He is pronatural and will support VBAC's. His number is ###-###-####.

If you go to Yahoo groups and look for AP Connect that is a good board for resources as well.

Best of Luck!!

Dr. Flowers in not my OB, but Dr. Sims is in the same practice and he was my OB. Dr Flowers assisted with my twins c-section. She was wonderful during that time, but I have not had any other dealings with her. Dr Michel Sims was great! He delivered my first daughter and my twins. He also was there when I had my miscariage. He was very comforting and understanding during my miscariage. When I then became pregnant with my twins, he was very attentive and comforting. He was willing for me to try natural child birth, until my son turned breach and my daughter was transvers. He said if I was set on it, we could try, but it would be in the operating room. I did not want to risk either life so I agreed to follow his recomendation and have a c-section.

I have to say that you would love Drs. New, Mendez or Rost.
They are excellent and I have been there for the last 22 years.

I would not recommend Drs. Doody in HEB for infertility. They do not have good bedside manners.

I experienced infertility for over 8 years. I would recommend Dr. Sy Q. Le in Irving. or Dr. Samuel Chantillis in Dallas.

Best of luck to you!
