I am looking for a pediatrician prior to having my baby. Does anyone have any suggestions for a pediatrician in or around Long Beach that accepts Blue Shield HMO? Thanks.
We have Dr. Kaplan in Los Alamitos and I think that he is wonderful. There are about 4 doctors that work together and they are all good. They have excellent hours, one evening a week and Saturday mornings. They are also always on call so in case of emergency you don't have to go to urgent care. They have met me on Sunday and if you call in someone will call you back within an hour usually the nurse practioner who is really fantastic.

We use Dr. Lorna McFarland from Columbia Pediatrics. We love her, love the practice. I believe they have 6 or 7 doctors, so if you have an emergency and you can't see your primary care physician they have plenty of other doctors for you to see. The website for the practice is www.columbiapediatrics.com . They are on the corner of Long Beach Blvd and Columbia (down the street from Long Beach Memorial Emergency). They take Blue Shield HMO, that's what we have. I was referred to Dr. McFarland a couple of weeks before I gave birth and that was just over 10 years ago and I have been very happy with her and the other doctors in the practice.

We absolutely love Dr. Selem! She has been my kids pediatrician since they were born, now 2 & 5 yrs old. She is in practice by herself, no other doctors... but she has ALWAYS seen my children the same day if they were sick. She always calls us back when we've had a question. I've even been out of the state with the kids & been able to call her, consult over the phone & get a prescription called in. The kids are always excited to visit her office & show her any "booboos" they have.

I absolutely love my kids pediatrician. Her name is Dr. Sawsan Selem and she is located at 2700 Bellflower Blvd in Long Beach. Her number is ###-###-####. She has her own practice so you don't have to worry about seeing another doctor. I hope this works out for you, we have been with her for 7 years now.
I go to Columbia Pediatrics (and so does everyone I know) in Long beach affliated with Long Beach Memorial. All of their Drs are great. I believe they do take your insurance. Good luck with your little one and congrats.
