I am 7 1/2 months pregnant and would like some recommendations for pediatricians in Long Beach. Specifically ones who are not too antibiotic-happy and are open to natural and alternative treatments.
Thank you!!

Hello H.,
I work in Long Beach and my 15 month old son's sitter is in Long Beach so of course I have his Dr close to work and day care. His pediatrician is Dr. Maneffa out of the Harriman Jones Building on Redondo and Spring. I have to say Dr. Maneffa is a great Dr and his staff is very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend his office.

I am really happy with Pediatric Medical Group, which is located on Redondo between Willow and Spring. Specifically, Dr. Welty is my favorite, but I like all the doctors there. I found them when my OB/Gyn recommended them to me when I was pregnant with my first and she actually takes her daughters to Dr. Welty as well. They are traditional with their approach, but my experience has been that they've been open to my desires. It might be worth a visit to interview them. Their phone number is ###-###-####. BTW, I was upset in the beginning because they never remembered me. I learned that most peditricians have trouble remembering their patients because they have so many of them that visit so often. This was not unique to Pediatric Medical Group. It's just something to be aware of so your early motherhood emotions don't get the best of you like they did me. Congratulations on your anicipated arrival and best wishes!!!

I agree with Kent M., Dr. Kaplan in Los Alamitos and all Doctors are awesome. I was referred to him by my kids' first pediatrician (in Culver City) when we moved to Long Beach 7 years ago my kids 13 and 8 have never had a bad experience with this group of Doctors. I happen to also hear that many of my friend and aquaintances also go to this group of doctors. ###-###-#### Give them a call to set up an interview, which you should be doing to find the right doctor anyway. One other thing I like about their office is they have a separate waiting room for sick children and one for well care visits...keeps the sick kids away from the well ones. Good Luck - trust your gut.

Hi H.
I haven't read any of the other responses yet but I always recommend my Pediatrician. Her name is Sawsan Selem. She is located at 2700 Bellflower Blvd, suite 201 (I think...for sure it's the second floor) Anyway she is amazing. Verattentive. Very thorough with each and every baby. She treats my daughter like she was her own. Never seems rushed, and I never wait too long. She answers questions and makes me feel comfortable with my own instincts as well as her own medical advice. I really can not say enough about her. Amazing, really.

I take my son to Alexander Maneffa at Harriman Jones at the corner of Willow and Redondo. They take all kinds of insurance. I am very conservative; I prefer to try everything holistic or homeopathic before conventional medicine, however, I did do most of the immunizations (albeit, a lot slower than the recommended schedule and I had the MMR separated). Dr. Maneffa is very patient and explains everything well, but also seems supportive of my approach to care. In fact, my son has had a tendency to get yeast-related diaper rash and I spoke to Dr. Maneffa about it. He suggested the usual cortisone cream and antifungal cream and I told him I wanted to try giving him probiotics first (an acidopholis blend that normalizes the bacteria in the digestive tract). The probiotics worked and when I told Dr. Maneffa, he surprised me by telling me he was going to pass that suggestion on to other parents. Anyway, I really like him and more importantly, he's great with my son. I hope this helps. R. (1 son, Benjamin, 2 years old).

We go to Dr. Weidlitz at the Kaplan, Weidlitz group in Los Alamitos. We really love our doctor but interviewed them all in the group and they are great! Good luck.
