Hello everyone
This is M. and I am asking another question about being new in Denver.
I am pregnant and I have a 3 year old son. I am looking for a pediatrician and I have no idea who is good or not. My doctor (OBGYN) gave me a list but I am not sure who to pick. I live around Washington Park area. I am considering to go to Cherry Creek Pediatrics (but just because is close to my home, I have not idea if is good, who to choose, any ideas?).
I also have to decide where to deliver my baby. I have two options: Rose and St. Josephs. Any input?
Thank you all and have a wonderful day!

What can I do next?

I think you mean St. Joseph's? both my kids were born there and it was great. Rose is very popular as well and many of my friends went there. Both excellent choices.
We loved Dr. Steve Perry at CC Peds, but we did stop going there about 4 or 5 years ago because the practice is huge and we couldn't always see the same dr.

I live in the same area.
I delivered at Rose last time and will this time too (June). No particular reason why, no recommendation, but it was fine. I think people only know what they know, so it's hard to compare.

I LOVE my pediatrician, though he is not the most convenient. I love him and I love the practice: http://www.cmcpc.com/web239/
We see Dr. Spyridon Papadopoulos. He is fabulous. Most of the doctors there - I have never ever had a complaint about one of them. They are great, and they have a lot of nurses to answer questions on the phone... I had to switch pediatricians because of the nightmares I had with the first one. I couldn't be more pleased with this office and Dr. Spyro. (That's what they call him)

My 6 year old was born at St. Joseph's. I had an "unusual" labor and was very unhappy with how they handled it. If you expect any "easy" labor, I am sure it's really nice, but that was not my experience.

They kept me on a TALL gurney that I couldn't get on and off of on my own (I am not tall) in a tiny curtained room until I told them I'd go have the baby on the lawn if they'd give me something for the pain.

That's when they moved me to a birthing room - to give me the epidural - and I think I could have managed much longer without it if I'd been in that comfy room for the 9+ hours they kept me on the gurney. I ended up having a C-Section, which may have happened regardless, but they definitely were into doing it and VERY HAPPY about how many they did that day.

Also...while the docs and and nurses in delivery were AMAZING, all but one of my maternity ward nurses were shockingly rude. I hope it's changed since then. It was truly shocking. One of the nurses went so far as to direct ALL questions regarding my son to my husband WITH HER BACK to me, and when I answered her, she turned around and snarled, "I wasn't talking to you." Seriously!

My surgeon had to change my urine bag when he checked on me the morning after my surgery. The nurse who had checked it told the nurse in training that it was not their job - even though it was about to back up into me and I couldn't move around yet!

I have NO IDEA why the nurses were so nasty to me, but I really can't think of ANY GOOD reason!

I have heard nice things about Rose, but then, I have heard nice things about St. Joe's too.

I suggest you check to see if the hospital publishes it's C-Section rate on it's website and look for one that is < 15%. A hospital that is proud of a low C-section rate is one that is less likely to make a $-based decision about your care.

Also, my 3rd son was born at St. Luke's and I loved them. One of the big differences was that there were no orderlies - just nurses, so there was no "not my job" attutude about care. There was no cushy maternity ward (though it was in construction), but I will take CARING NURSES and SUPPORTIVE CARE over cushy rooms (that I didn't really get to use) any day.

I did have a C-Section at St. Lukes' as well. And they handled it in as empowering a way as possible. My docs for son 3 were "Westside Women's Care."

Good luck to you! And congratulations!

Hi M.,

I have Kaiser, so I can't help you with the pediatrician, but as far as where to deliver, I delivered at St. Josephs. They were great! The only downside I had was the room we were given after the delivery where I had to stay for 3 days after my c-section. Room 200! It was AWFUL! Small and cramped. We couldn't wait to go home! There was a murphy bed in the wall for my husband, which was fine, but when it was down, there was no room! And, it was so hot! I had my baby at the end of June 2010. We asked for a fan and it was that old box fan that was really loud. All of the other rooms seemed fine, and they have their overflow wing where the rooms are HUGE! Other than that, the staff was great, I loved most of our nurses and they were all very helpful!

I know that there a couple of docs at Cherry Creek Pediatrics that tend to make the list of Top Docs in 5280 magazine each year. This list is comprised of recommendations/votes of doctors in this area. It is a very large practice but I have heard great things. We don't live in that area so I can't speak from personal experience.

Good luck.
