Hello L.,
I am also looking for a good carpet cleaner. I was told that the Hoover's are very good. I haven't checked them out but when i do, i will let you know what i find out.
Good luck,

We are wanting to purchase a really good quality carpet cleaner/shampooer. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a really good one out there? (or one that you wouldn't recommend!). I don't know much about them, but want to buy one that will do a good job and that we will be happy with, even if it is expensive. Any suggestions out there?

I love my Hoover SpinScrub All Terrain. It's tough and works great. Even with a hubby who doesn't like to dump the dirty water.
I would NOT recommend a Bissel. Had one of those, it leaked and after a short while stopped sucking up the water altogether. Didn't last very long.
At one point we did own both of these at the same time (the Hoover was mine, the Bissel was hubby's when we got together). He's a bit of a tinkerer and decided to mess with my original Hoover and ended breaking it somehow. It wasn't the carpet cleaner that messed up, it was him. But when it came time to replace it, he even agreed the Hoover was better, so we ended up getting a second one. I have forbidden him from messing with it and haven't had any problems since. It's been several years and it still works like new.
Oh, and we've had two kids, couple of cats, lots of friends coming over with their kids...this place gets filthy fast. The Hoover can handle it.
I have the bissell steamvac and I love it. I have not had a problem with it and it has gotten up some tough stains. Good luck!
We had a Bissell ProHeat and it was a total piece of junk. It leaked soap and water everywhere. Bissell finally sent us a replacement one after e-mailing them a lot. It too was junk. I've had really good results with renting the Rug Dr.'s at the grocery store. I think you can buy them too but it's nice to rent and not have to store it. Good luck!
I have a Bissell ProHeat 2x and it's wonderful! My husband used to clean carpets though, and swears by only using hot water b/c shampoo stays in your carpet. It's almost impossible to really get it all out. But just using the water, it's cleaned my floors wonderfully. Our house has 4 adults, 2 kids, 2 cats, and 2 dogs, so between cleaning spills on furniture with the hand tool or the floor with that setting, we've used it over 100 times since we bought it less than a year ago and it's worked wonderfully every time! I highly recommend it!
Hi L.,
If I could spend any amount of money I would get the Rug Doctor. They are amazing. They are the ones you can rent for $25 a day plus shampoo. They leave your carpet looking like day and night. They usually are $500-$600. Right now Kohls has them on sale for $599 which I think is a good price. They have so much suction power and they really leave your carpets clean and almost dry. You never find them on sale so I wouldn't wait. I think QVC also carries them and the only advantage there would be easy pay(if it is on easy pay at the time), where they charge your credit card e even amount every month instead of the one large sum. I have a bissell and it does a good job, but nothing like the rug doctor, esp. if you have pets and children. L.
The best one I have owned is the Rug Doctor. You can purchase them from Rugdoctor.com for around $500.00. IMO it is totally worth the investment. I used it not only for carpet cleaning but also to steam clean the upholstery and the car! You can buy the shampoo at any store that rents the machines (usually the grocery store) so you can pick it up while you do your shopping.
Good Luck!
If you decide not to buy right now, I have a service which I sware by. Mallory Carpet 1(800) 859-5101. They do a great job w/o charging you a lot of money. I've used them for years and have been extremely happy with the service.
