Hey mamas,
My son will be turning 7 this summer and I am thinking of allowing him to attend the Sky Ranch I summer camp this year for a week. I am wanting to see if anyone is sending their boy his age to this camp. I would love for them to meet ahead of time, so he will know someone. I would also love to hear feedback from mamas who have sent their children to Sky Ranch in the past. This will be our first year and first child to go, would love some tips. Thanks

What can I do next?

My son went there for a school field trip - a great facility. If you guys don't go, or want a local alternative, our Day Camps on Loake Grapevine offer the same general activities without overnight accomodations - www.AdventureDayCamps.com

Activities include Archery, Target Shooting, Kayaking/Canoeing, Fishing, Geocaching, Nature Walks, Orienteering, Arts & Craft Projects, Swimming, and more.

I too am looking into send my son to Sky Ranch this summer. I have a 9yr and 7yr old but thought of sending just the 9yr this year. I have a good friend who has been sending her son to Sky Ranch since he was 7 and loves it! I have not looked into dates but am planning on doing so this weekend. I live in Frisco.

My friend and I will be sending our boys to Sky Ranch this summer. It will be there first time away for a week but luckily they will have each other at camp. My son just turned six this month and her son will turn 7 in March. We will be attending the July 7th or thereabouts session.

We are both in the Dallas area.

I went to Sky Ranch as a child and I loved it! Of course that was about 25 years ago. I also went to Camp Fern and Camp Longhorn. Summer Camp is great for kids. I remember that my parents came to pick me up from Sky Ranch one time and I didn't want to go home. So, they signed me up for the next session and left me there!

My daughter is 13. She went to Sky Ranch at 10 and Kickapoo Kamp (Kerrville for girls only) at 9. She did not like either.

It was not home sickness. My daughter is not into lake activities (nor am I) although she is a good swimmer and loves the pool. At both camps, you are told that you do not HAVE to do anything, HOWEVER, she was forced to do some lake activities at Kickapoo (no pool) and at Sky Ranch, when she said she did not want to do the lake activities, she was ridiculed.

I spent about $2000 by the time we flew to San Antonio and got her set up for a week at Kickapoo in Kerrville and she hated it. Then the next year she went with a friend to Sky Ranch (less that $1000) and hated it as well. She did say that she liked Sky Ranch better than Kickapoo.

I guess it depends on your child, his likes and dislikes. We've found that my daughter prefers other things. Last summer she flew by herself on a one way flight to visit cousins and grandparents. That went much better for us.
