We live on the SE Texas coast and we are looking for a nice Rv park in Austin to evacuate to if we need to leave due to a hurricane. There are so many listed on the web, and you can't tell if they are really safe and clean. I came across Mckinney state park, but can't tell much about it. If anyone knows of some nice parks, please let me know. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Have you gotten some good responses yet? I have never been to McKinney State park, but recently saw a news piece on TV about it. They recently got funding to upgrade some parts of the park, so it may well be quiet nice now. Can't believe I've never gone yet..it's actually pretty close to where I live! Good luck!

From the looks of things you dont have alot of time ! I do know of one ,but are several in the area , heres the 1st one Lone Star RV Resort the # is 1-800-284-0206, this is south ,and can flood near by also heavy traffic area .there are a few in Georgetown also (Cedar breaks & Jim Hogg) . We are RVers also and know how hard it is to find a park in a time like this. If you should find yourself in need without a good place to go our home is available to you. We have 1 acre near lake travis with room for any size rv. We have a 30amp hookup, water ,but no septic. It is very safe, awesome view and not able to flood. If we can ever assist you please email or call . Also 2 nice rv parks less than 1 mile from our home. We live off fm 1431 on the north side of lake, lots of trees , views, hills ect. You can actually see stars out here.
PS The parks south of Austin , like Bastrop,Mckinney even Lone Star on Ih35 are all in low areas with potential flooding
. The extra 20-30miles to come north of Austin may prove to be well worth it!! I am a retired Austin FF , and know first hand the trouble spots. ###-###-#### or

McKinney is nice!!

There is the Austin Lone Star RV park...I think that's the name, not sure if Austin is before or after Lone Star. Anyway, my in-laws who are from the S. Padre area came and stayed there for a bit. They have a little playground for the kids and even have cabins. It's right on north bound IH-35 right before William Cannon.

We take our Youth and our Girl Scouts to McKinney and go camping and swimming and it's nice. I also heard Bastrop is really nice even though i haven't been there.
Good Luck and Stay Safe!!

I have been a resident in Austin for almost 17 years and can tell you there is a Good Sam's RV park in South Austin off of William Cannon and IH 35 that appears to be both clean and relatively safe. McKinney State Park is beautiful as well, but I have only done tent camping there and can not speak directly to their RV facilities. I hope this helps you and wish you all the best!

Try Bastrop State Park in Bastrop. There's a Walmart and some restaurants within a 5-10 minute drive, but you still feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. Lots of big pine trees ! They have showers & bathrooms, and some of the sites are in a horseshoe shape with a playground in the middle. Plus, it's closer to you thank McKinney. We used to camp there with the Boyscouts. I also heard Lockhart has a nice park/camp area, but I've never been it's also closer to you.
Good luck!

I work for the RV Association State Office and there are actually 2 really good ones I can think of off the top of my head. Austin RV Resorts is in south Austin near I35 and Oltorf intersection. Really nice and has a lot of ammenities, very family oriented and a lot of things for kids to do. There is another that recently opened on Bee Caves Rd but can't think of the name off the top of my head. If I remember it I'll edit my response. But I have worked with Austin RV Resorts and even set up reservations for one of our Board Members and his family to stay there. He had raving reviews. Ok I remembered the other La Hacienda RV Resort off Bee Caves 1-800-378-7275. If you'd like a few more let me know. I have a list of all of the Texas Parks so if you have to evacuate and can't get as far as Austin give me a call and I can let you know which one is closest to you.
