Try Tux Paint (www.tuxpaint.com). It's a painting website but I'm not sure right now if you can type on it. It's a downloadable program that my kids love. It's worth checking out.
Hi Ladies,
My kids need to do a project and I have been trying to find an easy, free and virus free website for them to use that will allow them to paint whatever they want AND be able to type too. I found Crayola.com to be fun for using markers, etc... but I can't find an area that allows you to type. I have done a google search but I am leary of which sites to download from. A warning came up on my computer twice saying it's an unknown site and doesn't recommend installing from it. I have Windows and I'm sure there's a painting option to just use that, but I can't find that on my computer. (I could if I had my Mac....)
Anyway... they are waiting to do this (on their day off today) and they want to design their dream label by painting and typing on the computer, but I may soon say that they're just going to have to use the "old fashinon way" of real pencils, markers, etc....
So... If your kids use any free oline painting sites that includes a way to type sentences, I'd appreciate getting the website.
Thanks so much!
THANKS SO MUCH LADIES FOR REPLYING SO QUICKLY! We tried the tux's website and my kid's finished their labels that they had to create. (They just felt like painting with tools on the computers today. Rather than using actual markers.) It was nice hearing that you have used it and it was free from viruses. (I think my security software (Norton) is so protective of unknown sites that it almost always does not recognize the site as being safe.) They designed and typed about their dream. (It's an activity they had to do after reading the BFG.) Thanks again! I love how we can help each other out on this site. And... thanks for explaining how I can use painting tools right in my computer. I will attempt to do that another time.

I don't know of any Web sites, but with Windows there is "Paint" and "WordPad"
Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories. "Paint" and "WordPad" are both in that menu.
Paint will let you draw with colors, shapes, etc, and you can also put text in the images.
WordPad is a very simplified version of Office Word to type text. You should also be able to insert drawings from Paint into a WordPad document.
Don't know how old your kids are, but at least these are safe & you already have them! :)
Try going under my programs; Accessories; and then their should be paint program right on your computer. That should allow you to paint & type.
I second Tux Paint. My daughter first learned about it when she was in kindergarten and they would use it in the computer lab. We downloaded it here at home and she still loves it a year later. She is able to type on it as well. I disabled the printing function though because she was printing too many of her "masterpieces" and using up all of our ink! :)
poissonrouge.com
more of a general learning site but with tons of creative things to do
I know that you don't have time for this right now, but there is a program that my DD LOVES and the schools I have taught at have and LOVE. It's called Kid Pix 4 and you can get it quite cheap on Amazon, so maybe that's a program to have around for later projects. We never found a very good one on the web and didn't like that the side ads were things that we didn't want our 4 yr old to look to or click on.
