My 5yo daughter will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. She has been in the most phenomenal full-day preschool for the past two years and we have decided that continuing in a full day program would be best for her. We live in the Murray Hill area of Beaverton and are looking for a full day program somewhere between where we live and the Garden Home/Raleigh Hills area. I have checked into Happy Hollow and Sorrento, but haven't really found any feadback on those two schools. If anyone has anything they can share about those or any others, it would be very helpful.

What can I do next?

I have been doing the same search for the last year. With most public schools cutting funds on full day, it seems that is no longer an option. Many of the private schools are quite spendy, so it really depends on what your limitations are & if you are looking for a regligious affiliated school or not. I am in a similar part of town, so I have lots of relative info fo you. I will warn you that many of these school began enrollment in Feb, so there may be waiting lists.

Here is a list of schools...if you would like more info please don't hesitate to contact me (I have spoken with all of them)!

St. Mary's Catholic School
Holy Trinity Parish School
St. Anthony's Catholic School
St. Cecilia's Catholic School
Swallowtail - Waldorf School
Carden Cascade Academy
Beaverton Christian School/Church
The International School
Living Wisdom
Oregon Episcipal School
Arbor School of Art & Science
Hilltop Christian School
Montessori School of Beaverton
NW Montessori School
Faith Bible Christian School
Southwest Bible School
Horizon Christain School
Life Christian

Best Wishes!!

J.,
The Hillsboro school district just adopted a full day or 1/2 day Kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year. Eventually all schools will be full day of kindergarten. Check with your local school district and let them know that you are looking for full day kindergarten. They can tell you what school your child should be attending and also what nearby schools have the full day.
I would advise you to register soon because registration has already begun and you want to make sure that there is space for your child.

Hi,
I also really wanted my daughter in full time kindergarten. We did an academic transfer from Fir Grove, which only has a 2 1/2 hour day for kindergartners, to Vose Elementary. Vose is on Denney Rd. We love the school. Its also great because they offer a Spanish Immersion program if you are interested. We have our daughter in the Spanish Immersion program there which is very cool since we are raising our children bi-lingual.

Hello J.:

My daughter has been attending Happy Hollow for going on 4 years now. She attended the Kindergarten program there and by the end of it was reading at a 3rd grade level. They teach a special reading program there, that is very accelerated and gives the children a phenomenal start in their schooling. The math and science is wonderful also. The teachers are all very caring and the school is Eco-friendly which is a plus. I would highly recommend Happy Hollow to you and anyone else. Going forward, they do bus to many schools and if attending Happy Hollow, you can ask for your child to attend Raleigh Park Elementary. This is a wonderful public elementary, filled with many wonderful parents and of course teachers/staff. It feels like a real community and the education is wonderful.

Hi J.,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note. I'm unable to provide you any information on a full day kindergarten except for one that I would HIGHLY recommend not going to if it gets suggested. I'm talking about Creative Children's Center or CCC. The owner does a wonderful job of marketing the place and she has some nice teacher working for her. However, there is no accountability for anything. Beware the written paper work that indicates positively NO REFUNDS for any reason even if you pay for a year in advance and decide the place is not for you. I have friends that stuck it out for 2 years hoping is would get better, but it never did. In fact it's worse. The owner is an alright person but has her fingers are into many of the other things to be any good in any one area. The friends that decided to stay to see if it would get any better have all lost the tuition money for next year. They finally decided to leave due to several reasons but mostly because they lost another teacher whom they liked really well. After talking to them it's pretty clear that the teacher left because of the owner. Anyway, there are many stories I could tell you in more detail but it would take to long. We lost about $400.00 dollars. I was asked why I left and I told them all of the reasons but the one big reason I left was because we did not get what we were sold and the owner is accountable for nothing and they had no intension of fixing anything.

I wish you much luck and I know there are plenty of other full time kindergarten schools out there that are excellent in what they do and you can feel like your child is well taken care of. CCC is not one of them.

Sincerely,

K. R

I don't know about the two schools you mentioned but, I have had my daughter in full day Kindergarten at St. Matthew Perish School in Hillsboro off of 3rd and Oak and she loves it. I love it too for many reasons the main three being the fenominal education, the dress code is alot more relaxed than most other private schools. The tuituion is very reasonable $3750.00 and you are allowed to make monthly payments not pay up front all at once $375 x 10 months, made it very afforadble for us. Alot of private schools won't let you make monthly payments. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions you think I could answer.

The story that Kim R told about CCC is very true I have had more than one mom from my mom's group tell me negative things and they stopped taking their kids to CCC.
