Hi A.,
I'm part of a group that is more of an eclectic mix. We are all Moms but some already have grown children in our group. I've been part of a Bunko group that played together once a month for many years but it has just disband. Therefore, we are starting a new group with different women who are all interested in a fun, diverse "Ladies Night Out".
We plan to meet the second Thursday of every month and take it month by month to see how it goes. In November, we are playing Bunko and in December, we're planning a "Christmas Cookie and Ornament Exchange". We hope to do something different each month like meet for chips, salsa and margarita's at a Mexican resteraunt or go see a chick flick together and we are open to any ideas. Some of the women I know are christian but this is NOT a churchie group and we want people to come as they are to just have fun and build each other up. If you're interested please email me at ____@____.com and I'll be glad to give you more info. I applaud your efforts for getting outside the box and reaching out to make new friendships.
Also, I'm a SAHM with 4 children (ages 8-1/2, 7, 3-1/2 and 16 months) and I live in Olathe but we usually get together in the Overland Park area. This group is actually just for adults so maybe your husband would be able to watch your daughter for you to have an evening out once a month. And, there's no pressure and this is very informal so you can come one month and not the next or whatever works for you.
If you were specifically looking for a New Moms Group that even allows you to participate with your new baby than you might give MOPS a try even though they are usually organized through churches. And, I don't know if you're a nursing mom but I know that they have New Moms groups that support each other in that way through Shawnee Mission Medical Center. You might even ask your pediatrician or OBGYN office if they know of support groups that you can join.
Best Wishes!
L.
