My opinion is you can alter the schedule if you want. They can not give your child any shot unless you say it's ok, so do what you want it's your child! Some Ped's will give you more trouble, but you are the parent!
I was wondering if any moms out there have been interested in the vaccine/autism issue and if you have talked with your pediatrician about altering the vaccination schedule. My ped will not alter the schedule but I have heard that some will. I have blue shield insurance and would love to obtain a ped. under our coverage that would be sensitive to this issue. Any feedback on your understanding of this issue is also welcomed.

Hi J.,
We do not vaccinate at all and our pediatrician is super flexible. Her name is Deborah Weiss and she is with Bayside Medical Group, Inc. out of Walnut Creek. See her, there are many doctors - ###-###-####. Not sure if she can alter the vaccination schedule but you might just set up an apt to see her, I believe they take that insurance. I have Blue Cross so I think so. Good Luck!

At my son's 12 month visit I asked my pediatrician about this issue. She waits to do the set of vaccines that "may" be linked to autism until the next appt after the 18 month visit (I think this is the 21 or 24 month visit). That way she screens for autism first. Her name is Dr. Weiss-Ishai from Bayside Pediatrics. Her offices are in Plaeasanton, San Ramon, and Walnut Creek. She is a great pediatrician.
The only time I altered the schedule is for the vaccination that they give the baby before you leave the hospital. The doctor came in to give the shot and I said I didn't want to have any shots yet. She was clearly irritated but I had informed my pediatrician of my wishes (but of course my regular pediatrician wasn't on duty that day) so I endured her scorn. Why do the doctors and nurses have to inflict all these shots and tests when the baby is less than 24 hours old? What's the rush?
I take me kids to East Street kids in Concord. our doctor is Dr.Benway. PH ###-###-####She is alter the schedule for my Daughter, it took some convincing but I just had her give less shots over each visit but took her in to get the other vaccines during the in between months. I hope that makes sense.
Hi J.,
I would highly recommend that you read the research regarding autism and vaccines. There is no link between vaccines and autism. The current research shows that there is a possible genetic link. I can certainly understand your concern regarding this, as this is an "opinion" that has been spread around for years without any evidence to back it up. I have had my 4 month old son's last vaccinations spread out over a week, as he had a tough time with his first round shots at 2 months. Your pediatrician should be willing to do that if you discuss it with them.
HI J.. I just asked for pedi. Dr. reccomendations this past week to mamsource. If you look under recent requests you can see everyone that responded to my ? But we just choose ours so since It sounds like you have the same concerns or ?'s as us; I just cut & pasted what I wrote as 'what happened' becuse this Dr, although beleives in vaccs. is willing to spread out & even since it's our choice to or not, if we decide not to do it, she said to us "I will not hold it against you, it's your decision. So here is my cut & paste:
"My husband & I decided to pay to do the 'get to know you' visit w/ Dr. Lai @ the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Dublin. ($50) We met her yesterday afternoon. We were both very impressed with the facility & like her stance on not overmedicating with less prescribed antibiotics. She is also willing to support us on whatever decisions we make regarding the newborn norms they do with the test/drops/shots & vaccines. She will share her opinion which is pro vacc.s but she won't hold it against us if we choose to spread them out or hold off or not do any of them. That is important to us. We wanted to make sure we chose a Dr. that would allow for our questioning every step of the way before choosing to make a decision for our child.
SO we decided she will be the one. Thanks for sharing your experience with her, all of the Dr.'s at that practice have the advanced degrees so I am secure knowing if we have to see someone else, they will be highly educated & from your opinion & others on Mamasource it sounds like there is more likeness among them. :)"
