Looking for Stylish Nursing Dress for Spring Wedding

I'm looking for a stylish and not too frumpy nursing dress to wear to a wedding. (I like the dresses at ann taylor but they don't seem to work to well for nursing the baby). If anyone has recently purchased such a dress and has a recommendation about a website/store which sells something like this, I would really appreciate it. The wedding is in about 3 weeks and I would like to spend about $100. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Thanks everybody! I found a great dress online in the end but I'll have to look into many of your suggestions later!

I don't have any myself (I usually opt for the skirt/blouse instead) but the dresses at http://www.expressiva.com/store/home.php are cute I think. And very reasonably priced.

When I was nursing my daughter I found the best tops to nurse in were the "mock" wrap style tops - they are low cut enough that you can move it to the side to nurse and cover yourself with a blanket. I tried other tops and found them too clumsy or very obvious that they were nursing tops. Good luck!

I had the same issue, I went to Macy's and picked up a dress I liked with spaghetti straps and then went to a seamstress and had her take the spaghetti straps and make them detachable like nursing bras. It worked perfectly that way I wasn't stuck with the nursing selection. and it had a little shall sweater top so I can wear my nursing bra.

Try Be By Baby, as suggested below - it's right at the intersection of Roscoe, Paulina, and Lincoln, on the northeast side of the intersection (on Paulina). They have a good selection of nursing dresses and tops, and also have great nursing bras, simple and practical nursing shawls, and lots of other nursing accessories.

Be By Baby on Roscoe is great for this. Expensive but good. My favorite nursing dress I got from Mimi Maternity but they don't carry a lot of formals. If you get a dress that's a knit and low-cut you can just turn it into a nursing dress but I know that's not ideal. I wish they made more nursing dresses! People in the fashion industry are really missing the boat! There are so many nursing moms these days yet no clothes for us!

Hi ZZ,
I wouldn't buy a nursing dress. The ones that are cute are expensive & the ones that are affordable are frumpy. I would look for a dress that buttons up the front or one that has a surplus top (that's a v-neck cross over top). Wrap dresses work really well too. Go to the store & try a bunch on & test the ease of getting access to your breasts in the dressing room. Good luck.

I would recommend a two-piece outfit. Either a light-weight suit, or a fancy blouse and skirt. I've had good luck finding these at department stores (Carson's, Macy's, etc.). I found it was much less annoying to nurse my baby during the wedding this way (than if I had worn a dress).

Best,
R.

I agree with Patricia and Dawn about the frumpy factor. I love BeBy Baby, but their nursing dresses are frumpy and nerdy, not to mention pricey! You're a mom, not a grandma. I like the idea of having the straps cut and made to be like nursing straps.

I get my nursing bras from Tinas Closet in Lisle. If you bring your dress with they will help make it fit.

When I needed a fancy dress while nursing I went to Two Peas in a Pod at Oakbrook. Very nice high end stuff.

I am not sure where you live, but there is a super cute boutique called Belly Dance. There is one in the city and one on the northshore (Highland Park I think). They have awesome stuff. It's pricey, but you could probably find a dress in the $100 range. Their stuff is so unique though so it's well worth it. Also on the other end of the spectrum is always Liz Lange Maternity at Target. They sometimes have great dresses.
