Hi, this is my first time asking a ? on here so here goes. I am 24 weeks pregnant with my second child and I have been having some irritation down below. I got a yeast infection about a month ago and I thought it was from my prenantal vitamins. I had just started taking them about a week prior,(I know I should have been taking them sooner but I have a hard time with that)and it was bad, so I stopped taking them. It went away and I was doing good and about to start them again when I got another one. This time it was even worse. I wasn't sure what I could take so I waited it out and it went away. Now my husband and I haven't had any sexual relations in about a week because of it, but now since everything was better we did. The problem--everything was better and now I feel like I'm getting another yeast infection over night. Now my question is, after all my rambling, is there a possibility that I'm having a reaction to his stuff( you know what I mean, I'm sorry, I'm kinda embarassed)? I never had any problems like this with my first pregnancy so I'm lost on what to do. I thought I would ask here before I ask my Dr. so any info would be greatly welcomed. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Hi Tiffiny:

I have yeast infections all the time if I am having sex with my husband. I just get them. I treat them and they will go away and come back again. It's annoying and I didn't want to have sex but I just thought I get them and they are easy enough to take care of so..... I don't know the why we get them. I am thinking a combination of the semen and the rubbing or friction to triggers it. I know if I don't recongize getting one mine are painful and on top of everything else I have to go to the bathroom all the time. But as soon as I use a monistate it relieves it the first day. I hope this is not too much more information for you and that it helps you out!!!! Good luck!!!

Hey there! You should really get checked out by your OB. Yeast infections don't usually clear up without treatment, and untreated can lead to other infections, dangerous for anyone, but especially during pregnancy. Plus, it may not be a yeast infection but possibly something else going on. Good luck!

Hi,

All the advice I have is, I am prego with my fourth,, all were boys but one, and I had a yeast infection the entire pregnancy (4-5mos till delivery) with my girl. Not sure if it was all the female hormones or what. Doctors werent' worried about it, just gave me a cream for the outside. My husband and I did end up passin it back and fourth alot too, which didnt' help, (we thought it was gone, it wasn't, lol) It was a real annoyance, but that was it. My daughter is 4 now, all is well. 22 weeks prego with another boy, so far no yeast, YAY.

P.s. my husband would use the spray (desenex maybe) cleared him up.

T.,

Although YOU may have cleared up YOUR yeast infection, your hubby may need treatment. He may be passing it back to you. I would call your family physician and tell him, so he can order something for hubby.

Blessing to you and your family, G.

I experience this problem at times as well. I'm 42 w/ 3 older kids now. Womens' hormones and systems change so much when we're pregnant or on certain medications. I asked my GYN about after years of this problem. Turns out--our guys' PH is off at times and it can irritate us. I am hypersensitive so we know what to do when I'm acting up. Use Lambskin condomes w/a natural lubricant--no spermicide. Also--see if your OB permits you taking Natrol Bio-beads--these are "good" bacteria that help us fight off yeast. I've had megadoses of antibiotics that used to always give me a problem--the bio-beads help. They don't dissolve until they hit your small intestine. You may also have a bit of vaginitis or some dryness due to hormone changes which can cause irritation--making a great place for yeast to act up. If you can use the Natrol bio-beads--I recommend finding them at a Natural Foods store or section. I go through the U-Promise Web site to Drugstore.com or Vitacost to order mine--my daughters use them as well since they have frequent sinusitis and anti-biotic use. It beats a prescription for an anti-fungal--which you can't use when you're pregnant, anyway. Hope this info helps.

T., I'd say you'd better give the Dr. a call. Each pregnancy is different and part of the time yeast infections are a sign of elevated blood sugars....gestation diabetes. Just because you didn't have it last time doesn't mean you couldn't this time.....could be a number of other things to but really reaaly need to tell the Dr. Also, pH of the vaginal area does change during pregnancy so it could be a temporary reaction to him....or the prenatals. Make sure hubby treats himself for yeast. It could possibly be a reinfection back and forth between each other. Much luck!!

T.--

I had a horrible yeast infection with my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies and brought it to the doctor's attention. For me, I have found that these come on with: 1.) a hormonal change, or 2.) too much sugar. I have gotten them occasionally (ugh!) since and I can usually trace it back to hormonal swings, i.e., near my period, or after a huge sugar binge. I was overweight and binged on candy a lot, it really affected my system. Fortunately, I am not diabetic and have gotten myself under control!

Hope this helps and I will say a little prayer for you---it is HORRIBLE!!!!!

I had the same problem. My husband and I found out that we had to start using Lifestyles because a lot of different condoms contain powders that can cause yeast infections and have been linked to cervical cancer. Also use some vasaline before during and after it can help the itching go away! Also you might want to get your husband tested for a yeast infection it could be that he is the one that keeps giving it back to you!

First change the type of prenatal vitamins that you are taking. The prescription ones that I was taking really bothered me, than I switched to the rainbow light brand, it was a huge difference and I felt heeps better. Next my natural remedy for your yeast infection is to take a bath with baking soda,(several tablespoons) and try to get as much contact with "down below" as you can. The baking soda will re-adjust your PH balance down there so the yeast cannot live. And it will not hurt you, your baby, or affect your pregnancy. Good luck.

I'm pregnant with my third. And I know from experience and from talking to my doctor that yeast infections and urinary tract infections can be increased during pregnancy. Also, once you get one, you are more likely to get it again and it can take longer to get rid.

I don't think it's your husband's stuff but it could be a naturally occurring germ that is on his equipment giving you the infection or you may have given it to him when you had it. He may have no symptoms but may be a carrier. I'd double check with my doctor and, also, check with him as to how he wants you to treat it. (Mine recommends Monistat-3 for a yeast infection). It could, also, be that it is not a yeast infection but a urinary tract infection. The treatment for the yeast infection may have caused the symptoms to go away for awhile but the infection may still have been there. It is definitely something you should have checked by your doctor.

Good luck and I hope your symptoms subside for you soon.

if you had a yeast infection your husband needs to get treated for a yeast infection also. If not and yours clears up he will give it back to you without even knowing it. I had this happen when I was pregnant also. My doctor finally asked if my husband had been treated also adn I was like no why>? and he told me that if he didnt get treated i would keep getting it.
Just have your husband call his doctor, make an appointment or whatever. I know with our doctor all my husband had to do was tell his doctor over the phone I had a yeast infection and he needed to be treated also. He called the medicine into the pharmacy and we both got treated and it was over.

Men can get yeast infections also. I think thier sypmtoms are different than ours. I know my son was treated for a yeast infection a couple of months ago. good Luck!

Are you taking any kind of antibiotics? Those are a big problem with getting yeast infections. But, call your DR!!! That's what they are there for. Don't feel weird about it. I called my Dr. for everything...especially when you are pg. You don't want anything to happen to that precious bundle you are carrying!!!

Sometimes with pregnancy, it's common to have yeast problems because of your hormones level. I have a similar problem but it's a yeast rash all over my body. Nothing has worked against it so I kind of leave it alone and hope it goes away. If you are comfortable with it, go to your doctor and see what he can prescribe for you that's safe for you and the baby to use. During my first pregnancy, an anti-fungal cream worked on the yeast rash. Too bad not this time around.

I got a yeast infection when I was prego with my first son it could be that you might want to wait to have sex until after the babies been born since it seems to be iretating the birth canal in doing so but it would be a good idea to ask your doc about what you can do about the yeast infections because if you continue to do nothing it will keep comming back and if you have this when you go to give birth you may cause the baby harm or have to get a c-section dont feel embarresed just tell your doc that you've have gotten a few yeast infections you dont need to explain or ask about the sex part

Have you ever been check for Diabetes? I am a diabetic and do get yeast infections when my levels are high. You should be checked just in case you have gestational (onset during pregnancy) diabetes; that's is when I first got diabetes; or it could just be your hormones. I would tell your doctor at your next checkup.

I also had this problem with all of my pregnancies. It turned out that I was getting the yeast infection back from my husband. I would have him get treated as well. A yeast infection can be very contagious. You might just be pasing it back and forth to each other. Good luck. I know how you are feeling.. I hope everything works out for you.
