Looking to Move in the Next Month...Please Help, Need a Good Area to Move In.

I am currently looking for a 3-4 bedroom house to move into for rent or rent to buy if it is in a good location. I'm currently working in Center City area and currently live in West Philadelphia. I want to move somewhere that I can still get to my job and that is a good neighborhood for my daughter; maybe one with children so she'll have kids to play with.
I need to move by sometime next month, and I have been looking for places with no avail haven't had any luck or either relators haven't called me back when I left messages. I am really skeptical of where to move now because the reason I moved from my last home,in South Philadelphia was we were robbed. We went out on a weekend and came back almost all of our things were gone and the bad part, is that I suspect it was the neighbors next to me.
Anyway for that particular reason I've been looking for areas that may be better or maybe even a little bit outside of Philadelphia if its not a long commute and I can afford it.
If anyone has any suggestions, is a realtor or knows where I can look for homes please let me know. I appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I think it depends on how much you have budgeted to pay for rent. Radnor is great, but it would cost a fortune to live there! If you want to stay in the city I'd look at the Northeast. If you're thinking outside, maybe look at Landsdown, Drexel Hill, or Media. Are you looking for a home or apartment? Rent or own?

My husband & I lived in townhouses in Lindenwold, NJ. The Lindenwold station was really close (it is the first/last stop along the PATCO line into the city). Our was a 2 br but there were 3 br there. There was a pool in the complex, a pizza place just up the road that ran $3 pizza nights on Wed, a ice cream/water ice place down the street.

It was called Timber Ridge.

We really liked it there. There was a carnival that came in Aug across the street, lots to do close by, the management was really great. The size was good & laid out nicely.

And once we had been there for a year, we were able to go to month to month as we were looking to buy a house & didn't want to be locked in.

Here is another in the area:

We live in Lansdowne and enjoy the area. It's just outside the city line to the west. The only problem is that it has the worst public school system in Delaware County - William Penn. It's not an issue for us yet as we still have a 3 and a 2 year old, but for your daughter it might not be so good!
I know I've seen duplexes/apartments in homes for rent here. I'm not sure a realtor would help you with renting. Good luck!

Let me first say, thank God you were not home when the robbery took place. Second, if you're a single mom and work in CC, you don't want to live so far away from your daughter who may need you. I would suggest maybe Lynnewood Gardens. It's right next to Cheltenham Mall and it's pretty. I lived there for 2 years until we found a house close by. We lived in the townhouse, but they have 1 and 2 br too. Prices vary, so call them. I think the number is 215-886-???, look it up. Good luck!

If you'd be interested in Jersey, I live in Collingswood. There is a Patco station in town and door-to-door to Center City (I worked at 1 South Broad before I had kids) takes about 1/2 hour. My husband walks to the train from our house in nice weather. Trains run every 8 mins so you don't have that "have to catch the train" anxiety and it's a lot more reliable than SEPTA. GREAT place to raise kids. Tons of family activities, really family-oriented. There are all types of housing from single-family, to twins, to apartments. Good luck!

I live in Havertown, it is a great family friendly community. It has wonderful schools, a township day, great sports programs and is a very safe area. I have lived here most of my life and i love it :-)
