Hello Moms~
My husband is taking a job in Springfield Ohio. We have determined that we don't want to live there and have looked into Beavercreek and Tipp City so that he could commute. If you have any insight into either of these areas...especially which schools and neighborhoods are best I would appreciate the help.

Thanks so much~
S.

I would live in yellow springs if I had the choice--but it is more expensive to buy a house there. My sister lives in Tipp City and moved there from Piqua because the public schools were better for her son who is on the autistic spectrum. They have great parks for kids too.

Bethel Township has great schools, as well. Most people in Bethel have a Tipp City mailing address. Bethel is a small community. I recommend it!

Yellow Springs is close if I remember. Nice little hippy town where Antioch college used to be. They have great parks and shops.

It's early and I didn't read all of the question...

Tipp City is great for antiquing, but Beavercreek is better for raising a family.

Coming from a former resident of Tipp City, it does have great schools. I attended High School there and my sister attended late elementary school through high school. We both received a great education. It is easily accessible to the highway and to Dayton area and all of the offerings that you can get from a bigger city while not living in the city. It has been growing a lot lately. My parents are still there and I moved over 10 years ago, so I see the progress. I do hear about the schools as my parents stay in tune with them and my mom volunteers with the music program. There is also the possibility of looking east of Springfield as well, London, Plain city, Hilliard. Springfield is about mid-way between both Tipp City and West side of Columbus. I make the trip often enough to know.

We relocated to Ohio just over a year ago from NC when my husband took a job in Springfield. We bought a house in Fairborn, but our neighborhood is in the Beavercreek school district. Beavercreek has phenomenal schools (all rated Excellent). Beavercreek city has pretty high taxes and utilities are also more expensive, which is why we chose Fairborn. We do pay a school tax since we are in the Beavercreek district, but our taxes aren't as high as if we actually lived in Beavercreek. Our neighborhood is great and it's about 15 min from the ANG base where my husband works. We are a 7 min drive to the mall, about 3 min to a grocery store (less than 10 min to the commissary if you're military), and about 4 min to the expressway. I think our location is fantastic. If you would like to know the name of the neighborhoods that are in Fairborn city but Beavercreek school district, then message me and I'll give you the info. There are several houses in our neighborhood that are for sale right now, and I think they're reasonably priced. We do get some occasional daytime jet noise from Wright Patterson, but it's not excessive.

As for Yellow Springs, I have been there a few times and it certainly has it's own atmosphere. The only thing that I can warn about it is that it does get quite a lot of (F-16) jet noise from the ANG base. So, if that is a concern, you might want to stay away from that area. The reason people say it's "hippie-ish" is because it has a few head shops and natural stores. We didn't look there because of the jet noise issue.

Good luck!

Oh yes, Yellow Springs!! It's a picturesque, artsy community which until recently had a branch of Antioch College. It has beautiful nature trails, a great pizza place and other good restaurants, and many shops and galleries. A lot of culture in a small town setting. There is also Young's Dairy outside of town, a great destination for children where you can eat and feed the goats and see other farm animals. I love to visit there!
Check it out!!

Hi and welcome to Ohio!
If your going to choose between Beavercreek and Tipp City, I would go w/ Beavercreek. The schools are great and the people are wonderful. Just about any neighborhood in Beavercreek is good.
We looked into moving there about two years ago and it was a toss up between Beavercreek and Centerville. (We literally flipped a coin!)
You might also want to check into Centerville. I don't know tho, it might be to much of a commute.
Good luck and welcome to Ohio again!

I'm a Tipp City native...now I serve on the school board here. We have a nice small town with controlled growth and great schools. If you have any questions about schools or neighborhoods, I'd be glad to help with info. I have a 6-y-o in kindergarten at Tipp and a 17-y-o in the high school so I've seen and experienced a lot here! Happy hunting and congrats on the job! Those aren't easy to come by right now!

Hi S.
Not sure where you are relocating from but have looked around the Springfield area? We live in Uniontown which is extremely close to Springfield and the Lake School District is awesome. We love it here. Good luck!

Duh! I'm sorry you are referring to Springfield by Dayton. I thought you were talking about another Springfield in Northeast Ohio. SORRY!

I live just outside of Springfield and my son is also 6 years old. He goes to a wonderful school Northwestern Elem. We live in the county but we still have a Springfield address. Really Springfield is NOT a bad place to live. We have all the stores and restaurants that you could ever need to shop or eat at. I always here terrible things about this town but really it is not all bad. I work in the city. But there are several small towns/villages around Springfield to live it just depends on how rural you want to go. I really do suggest that you look into some of our schools in the county and you will not be dissapointed in what you find.

My husband works in Mason, OH. We will be moving over there this summer from Indiana. We are looking at Loveland or Lebanon.
One of his coworkers lives in Springfield. They really like it there and have a couple of kids.
Sorry I do not know anything about the schools.

Dear S.,

Both Beavercreek and Tipp City have good schools and are nice places. Both are an easy commute.

I have a friend in BC who just got divorced and his house is soon to go on the market. I don't have any idea what your price range is but it is a beautiful house, low maint, very energy efficient and light & airy. Plus the dig deck looks right over the park where they shoot off the fireworks on July 4th. He said it was okay to contact him directly - ____@____.com

God Bless,

S.

Tipp City is nice, great new HS, small town feel.
I'm in Troy, which is just one town north. Have you looked at us? It's a bit bigger than Tipp, schools have a good rep. We were just named one of the best hometowns in the state by Ohio Magazine. We have a beautiful, active downtown around the square, a busy shopping district just west of the highway, several good restaurants, and lots of well-maintained parks. Big shopping is 1/2 hour away (Dayton and Fairfield Malls) but we have everything we need right here, without all the congestion of the mall areas. It took me about 6 months to go through shopping withdrawal, but now I love it! Troy is a great place to raise a family.

Look up Yellow Springs at yellowspringsohio.org It's about 10 min drive to central Springfield. YS has a wonderful community and great schools. I could go on and on about it, but it's really better to come and take a look, you won't find any place like it around here.

Someone mentioned Yellow Springs as a hippy town. It's not 100% hippy, but you can learn more about it here: http://www.yellowspringsohio.org/ And it's very close to Springfield, about 15 minutes away.

We moved to Beavercreek about 7 months ago from Columbus Ohio. I don't now much about Springfield or Tipp City, but the schools in Beavercreek are very good. I have a son in Kindergarden. We like Beavercreek and it has pretty much everything that we need. Before we moved we came out for a weekend and drove around the areas we were considering. You can research schools are www.schooldigger.com or greatschools.net

Good Luck, J.

S.,
I've lived in Springfield all my life so I'm biased (and I work for the Spfld City Schools and I'm a graduate of them too). We have our problems just like anywhere. In choosing where to live you might want to take into consideration where in Spfld your husband will be working. Many of my co-workers live in the county and their children attend county schools so I've heard and know of good things from Northeastern School district, Northwestern, Southeastern (South Charleston), and Clark Shawnee. If you go north toward Tipp City or Troy, Huber Heights you're giving your husband a commute. My husband works in the back of the NextEdge business park where computer technology companies are building their offices. (He used to work near Wright States U and the Fairfield Commons Mall in Beavercreek which is an easy 40-50 minute commute depending on the weather). Definitely find a realtor you feel good about and look at all the areas in and around Springfield.

If you're not already working with a Realtor, I think you would find this to be a good idea.
A good Realtor can send you all kinds of information about the areas, the schools, the amenities, cost of living, etc.
I happen to be a Realtor too (16 years now) but I work mainly in the Cinti. and surrounding areas. However, I can get you the name of someone who can help you, if you'd like.
