Ugh! After having my son, it seems my hair just won't stop falling out. When I shower, it comes out ALOT. I have always had extremely thick hair. Now it feels almost like just normal hair. How do I stop my hair from getting any thinner? What vitamins or supplements can I take to promote hair growth?? Thanks!!

Hey Alex!
This is called Telogen Effluvium. It is abnormal shedding after a metabolic stressor (childbirth!) Usuallly it is about four months after the stressor, you are just a bit delayed. There are three stages of hair growth the anogen - or active phase, the catogen or resting phase - and telogen or shedding phase. After a major metabolic event, childbirth, illness, surgery or crash dieting, the phase shifts to the telogen phase (most of the time the three are balanced) This is a self limited process, and your hair will return! I see this in my practice ALL of the time and my patients are very distressed! You can support the hair by adding 2.5mg of bioten. I rec Apperex - you can ask your pharmacist to order it for you. Good luck, and dont worry!

I have two girls & had the same experience after having both, especially after I quit nursing my youngest. It will end - I promise it is just hard, especially on the shower drain. I started using Tresume anti-breakage to keep the hair I had from breaking and it has lots of vitamins, too. It helps & even my hair dresser commented on how healthy my hair was. Anyway, hormones are the cause & now (kids 3 & 1 1/2) my hair is thicker than it's ever been.

Alexandra,

Mine did that too after both of my boys were born. I just let it run it's course. I shed like a golden retriever for several months, but it slowed and stopped by the time the youngest was about 10 months old. I think it stopped around 9 or 10 months for my older son too. Now I have these lovely little baby hairs that are slowly growing out, which is sort of a pain, but they grew quickly and are long enough to disguise now. I'm not sure of any supplements or anything, but just wanted to let you know that I was in the same boat!

Hope this helps!

Alexandra,

Arbonne has a product called Intelligence Thermal Fusion Hair & Scalp Revitalizer. I have a friend who uses it and she loves it. I am also starting to experience the same hair loss problem. I had 4 seperate people comment on all the hair I had falling out everywhere just two days ago so I am planning on ordering some for myself! Let me know if you would like to try it. www.getresults.myarbonne.com

It's totally normal. It's your hormones getting back to normal. I had clumps of hair everywhere. After it quits falling out, you will notice re-growth. That can be somewhat annoying because of the short sprouts everywhere - but it will come back.

I had the same problem after my daughter was born (May 19, 2006). I even started to get small bald spots, so I went to my hair dresser for her advice. She gave me Nioxin shampoo and conditioner, to help thicken my hair up. I've been using it for 3 weeks, and I have seen a huge difference. I don't have the hand full’s of hair after I shower, and it's not all over my bathroom anymore. I think you can purchase Nioxin at Armstrong McCall, or at any beauty supply store. I hope this helps.

Take care,
T.

P.S. I am a young mom (26) in the Arlington area with an 8 month old little girl. What area are you in? Maybe we could have a play date, or lunch.
