I know this may sound weird to some of you, but I am looking for a main dish recipe that uses chocolate or cocoa. I plan on using this for a February "theme" dinner trying to incorporate the chocolate for that famous holiday of the month! If anyone has any recipes they'd like to share, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

I've heard that a real "Cincinatti chili" contains chocolate. You should be able to find a recipe for it online.

K.,

You might want to check out www.foodnetwork.com for a recipe using chocolate in a main dish. They are starting to have shows on using chocolate and different things for Valentines Day dinners. I hope this helps you.

hi K.,
no exact recipe, but cocoa powder is the "secret" ingredient in my chili almost everytime. gives it that mysterious dark flavor. i would add it to whatever your favorite recipe already calls for.

happy party!

Hi K., If you like hispanic /latino dishes you could try Chicken Mole. Mole is a sauce made with chocolate (very yummy). I have one recipe for it, but I haven't tried it yet, but you could check www.allrecipes.com for others that people have rated. Allrecipes is an awesome site, I use it all the time.

Cincinnati chili has chocolate in it -- it's sort of a sweet style chili that you serve over pasta like a sauce. You can add cheese, chopped onions and the like on top. It's actually quite delicious.

I make a kind of chili dish with corn bread on top and I put a few handfuls of chocolate chips in the chili. It is fabulous and the only tomato based sauce my five year old will eat. If you are interested in the recipe contact me and I will email it to you. D. C

You could use Mole. Its mexican chocolate that they use to spread on chicken and cook it etc. It is very spicy though. You can get it in the mexican isle of any grocery store.

You can try a Mole. A Mole is a savory main dish- sometimes made with chicken. It uses cocoa and savory spices as a sauce. I think it's Mexican in origin.Check out Allrecipes.com (I Love this site)for specific recipes.

Not very romantic ... but my favorite chocolate dinner recipes - CINCINNATI CHILI! Good luck!

Cincinnati Chili Recipe

1 large onion chopped
1 pound extra-lean ground beef
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon red (cayenne) pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa or 1/2 ounce grated unsweetened chocolate
1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 (16-ounce) package uncooked dried spaghetti pasta
Toppings (see below)

In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, saute onion, ground beef, garlic, and chili powder until ground beef is slightly cooked. Add allspice, cinnamon, cumin, cayene pepper, salt, unsweetened cocoa or chocolate, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, cider vinegar, and water. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, 1 1/2 hours. Remove from heat.

Cook spaghetti according to package directions and transfer onto individual serving plates (small oval plates are traditional).

Ladle chili over spaghetti and serve with toppings of your choice. Oyster crackers are served in a separate container on the side.

Cincinnati chili lovers order their chili by number. Two, Three, Four, or Five Way. Let your guest create their own final product.

Two-Way Chili: Chili served on spaghetti

Three-Way Chili: Additionally topped with shredded Cheddar cheese

Four-Way Chili: Additionally topped with chopped onions

Five-Way Chili: Additionally topped with kidney beans

Makes 6 to 8 servings.

1/4 chile poblano pepper
3 chiles pasillas (poblano, or can substitute a red pepper)
3 chiles ancho (dried version of poblano)
a handful of almonds
a handful of sesame seeds
turkey stock
a hard roll (1/3 concha roll)
peanuts
1/2 onion
wine
2 squares chocolate
anise
lard ( I don't use lard, I use whatever is on hand)
cinnamon
pepper
sugar
seeds from the chiles
5 cloves garlic

Cook a turkey.

The almonds and sesame seeds are toasted in a griddle. The chiles anchos with their membranes removed, are also toasted - lightly, so they don't get bitter. Do this in separate frying pans. Afterwards the toasted chiles are ground on a stone along with the almonds and sesame seeds.

When the almonds and sesame seeds have been thoroughly ground, mix them with the stock in which the turkey was cooked and add salt to taste. Grind the cinnamon, cloves, anise and pepper in a mortar, adding the roll last, after frying in lard with chopped onion and garlic.

Next, combine the mixture with the wine and blend well.

Combine all the ingredients in a large pan, add the cut up turkey, the chocolate, and the sugar to taste. As soon as the mixture thickens, remove it from the heat.

I myself don't have one favorite, but I do enjoy it when I eat out and can find it.
