My son is 2 1/2 and still sleeps in his crib which I am fine with. He has never tried to get out and seems happy but I was wondering at what age should I make the switch or should I just wait until he starts trying to climb out? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hello, I have a son who is now 10. We switched him over at 3 and took away the baby theme. He still used a side rail until he was use to it, but it was an easy transition. He never climbed out of the crib I just felt it was a
right age to make a switch. Good luck!

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. Does he need a bed so he can go potty in the middle of the night?

We waited till our son was climbing IN to the bed at 2 years. We didn't even wait till he climbed out of it, as it'd caused a big bump on his head. The day he climbed in, we set up the toddler bed.

So there's no right or wrong time. I think wait till he's ready or has an actual need for one (like potty training at night).

When he jumps out or can't fit.

I wouldn't move him until he's crawling out.

DS started crawling out about 3 weeks ago (he just turned 2), and it's been HELL.
If he doesn't mind being confined in the crib, enjoy it as long as you can!

If he's happy in his crib there's really no reason to move him out. If you are working on potty training though, you may want to consider moving him to a big boy bed so he can get out easier in the middle of the night. I moved our son into a big boy bed at 2 1/2 because he was climbing out to go potty in the middle of the night.

My son will be 3 in October and is still in a crib. He's never tried to climb out. We are goign to make the switch next week I think. And only b/c when we travel, he's getting too big to fit in the pack n' play. He looks so uncomfortable! Anyway, I want him used to his big boy bed at home, before we tackle a normal bed while traveling. Other wise, I'd probably just keep him in his crib until he asked for a big boy bed.

If he's happy and not climbing out, I don't see why he can't stay in his crib until he's 3. I have a 15 month old in a bed, because he was able to climb out of his crib. (and did so...frequently!) I wish I could have kept him confined at night a little longer :)

Don't go looking for trouble! LOL
You can keep him in there til well past 3. With every month that passes, he's a month more mature to understand the concept of "staying in bed at night" which is a BIGGIE!
