Maui Destination Wedding: Need Help Planning, Travel Agent, Wedding Coordinator

My cousin just got married 2 weeks ago in Maui. Here is what she suggested. "We used J.J Preston from mauiweddingplanner.com. She was great! She was my photographer and her husband did our ceremony. His name is Michael Beachwood. Both really nice people. we stayed at the Marriott Wailea in Maui. We did not have the wedding there but at a beach nearby. But you can get married at most of the resorts. For a larger group i would go with a resort and not a condo. The good thing about condo's though is the size. so they may want to consider if they get a good deal on a block of rooms. Ok but if they want to get married at the resort... i have 2 friends that got married in Maui at their hotel. one at the maui prince and the other at the grand Wailea... which is amazing but pricey... that was my first choice. Its where Jon and Kate plus 8 did their vow renewel on tv. GORGEOUS!!! Thats all I got. Again ours was simple and just us. i booked all our travel myself" Hope this helps!

First of all, congratulations! What exciting news! I have been to Hawaii 15 times, and to Maui 13 of those trips, so I am very familiar with the island. I was also married on Kauai, so I have some experience with planning this type of event out there.

My advice to you would be to focus on staying at a large resort. This will allow you the best accommodations for both your wedding and your guests. Also, most large resorts have wedding coordinators on staff and you don't have to pay extra for them. The cost of their service is included in the price of the wedding. We were married at the Sheraton Kauai and dealt strictly with their wedding coordinator. It was EXTREMELY low stress - I think we talked to her a sum total of 3 times before we flew out there, then met with her a couple of times at the resort. Everything was taken care of for us, from the minister to the music to the flowers and cake. It was fantastic!

Also, we had 8 other guests join us. What we did ourselves was fly to Hawaii for 2 weeks and had our wedding in the middle, so we were there a week before to adjust to the time zone, get a little tan, etc. And then were there a week after for a honeymoon period. We told all of our guests to plan on meeting us at the resort for the wedding weekend, but that they could plan the rest of their trip however they wanted. This worked out very well. A large resort will be able to accommodate your guests with blocks of rooms and should give you a reduced rate. If you are not a member of Starwoods, I would suggest signing up. It is free and you get 35% off your room rate on Starwoods Hawaiian hotels as well as 35% off restaurants in the hotel, plus a host of other discounts. Well worth the few minutes to sign up on line.
