Does anyone know of an inexpensive and nice MIchigan summer vacation home rental on Lake Michigan, or on a lake in Michigan that would house 10 adults and 13 kids? We are also interested in looking into cottages, homes or cabins next to each other as well. Ideally, we all wish to spend less than $1000 per family for a week for the home rental portion(there's 5 families). Any information is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Hi C.,
The past two summers we rented a great cottage in Union Pier (just over the MI/IN border. The cottage is part of a small neighborhood of fairly new construction homes done in a New England/Cape Cod style. We rented the smallest one for our family of 4 and I believe we spent $1200 for the week in high season each year. There are several different sized houses that are available for rent, many of which are huge and would easily accomodate 2-4 families. It is less than a mile to the beach, and there is a beautiful pool in the neighborhood that you'll have access to and can walk to. Union Pier is not very big, but New Buffalo is just a 5 minute drive and there are tons of restaurants and shops there. We had a great time both years and would definitely go back. We love that it is so close to Chicago and yet it feels like a world away. The neighborhood is called Lake Shore Cottages, and RSVP Rentals handles the majority of the rentals in there. Just google "rsvp rentals union pier" and you'll see a tab for "LS Cottages" on their website. Good luck!
i don't have any info specific to michigan rentals, but our family and friends rent houses at least once a year on the east coast and these are the sites we use to find them.

We went to http://www.beachwalkresort.com/beachwalk-resort/
It's in Michigan City IN (5 miles from the MI border). The nice thing was that it was a community so there are pool, basketball, tennis court, playgrounds etc. To get to the beach all you have to do is walk across 1 street and take the wood pathway to it.
It's really family/kid friendly -- there were kids and adults plaing the baggo game on the street --- so everyone is cautious about driving.
Grand Haven is a REALLY pretty area. The last weekend of July and the first weekend in August is the Coast Guard Fest...Lots of stuff to do with family and friends.
I personally think Grand Haven is one of the prettiest cities (besides Traverse City and Ludington) on Lake Michigan.
