We did an alternative when we were little because we couldn't afford a lot so it was a treat, but it is so good i still eat them to this day. you take a saltine cracker, put peanut butter on it, and then a marshmallow. put it in the oven under the broiler until the marshmallows are golden on top. it is sooooo good!!! Salty and sweet at the same time!

One thing I do to make a snack mix that tastes like smores is take mini marshmallows, golden graham cereal and M&Ms and mix them in a bowl. Fast prep and no mess.

My friend was telling me about doing s'mores in a pizza box. The recipe is on the family fun website: http://jas.familyfun.go.com/crafts?page=CraftDisplay&... I haven't tried that one yet.

One thing we did this summer (we were running out of chocolate bars). We had chocolate Oreos and we toasted the marshmallows over the campfire as usual, then we opened the chocolate Oreos and put the marshmallow on it and put it back together. They were so good!!! We named them "S'mOreos".

Microwave smores put about 2 squares of chocolate and 1 jumbo marshmallow on a graham cracker. Microwave for 10-12 seconds depending on your microwave. The marshmallow will puff up large so do not be alarmed. It will shrink back down but is soft and gooey. Another alternative to smores is called a smunchie and is a frozen version. prepare one package of chocolate pudding following package directions. Once made and set up add one cup of peanut butter. Spoon on to 1/2 graham cracker and put a dolop of cool whip on top. Place other 1/2 of graham cracker on top and freeze. These are a great summer treat. Take out of the freezer for about 5 minutes before eating. Hope you enjoy!!

This may have already been mentioned but try using hersey minitures, all the different bars are really good. I have seen them done with peanut butter, jelly and marshmallows. www.foodnetowrk.com has recipes for this under the kids section I believe.
Also we wrap them in tin foil and put them in the oven or on the grill. It takes about 10-15 min at 300.

Hi A.,
There is a yummy indoor s'more recipe that we love to make. You melt 5 cups marshmallows, 1.5 cups milk chocolate chips, 5 tablespoons of butter, and 1/4 cup of light corn syrup over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix together with 8 cups Golden Graham cereal and another cup of mini marshmallows. Pour into a buttered 13 x 9 pan and let cool. Delicious! =)
Enjoy!

My much younger cousins would always love to come stay at my house because we ALWAYS had microwaved smores for breakfast. My one cousin is 13 now but still talks about our smores breakfast. We did make them in the microwave but the old fashioned way with a halfed graham cracker, hershey bar on one graham cracker and the marshmallow on the other. Once melted sandwich together. My husband loves smores made with a Peanut Butter Cup instead of the chocolate bar but he has only made that at campfires not sure how it would do in the microwave? They also now have chocolate, strawberry, and coconut covered marshmallows so that could be interesting on a smores!! Good question. I cant wait to read all the yummy responses!!

Update: I looked up some smores recipes and did some asking around. I found lots of recipes without graham crackers at all, using chocolate cookies or cookies of some sort. Someone else told me they use a graham cracker, a strawberry marshmallow, and I believe the candy bar is called Caramello? It is a chocolate candy bar with caramel inside. I thought that sounded yummy because strawberry and caramel are very good together. Another used graham crackers, chocolate marshmallows, and a reese cup for that chocolate/PB combo. Just a couple more ideas.

Hi A....My son and his friends make micro-smores using honey flavored teddy grahams, mini marshmellows, chocolate chips. Put a pinch of each into a paper cup, microwave for 15 secs, stir. micro wave 10-15 secs more, stir. Until chips and marshmellows are melted. For fun we let them toss in m&ms, reeses pieces, or peanuts. Use your imagination! Have fun. O, and you can do the same thing while camping...just make cups out of foil and heat in fire or grill.

hi, sounds like you are looking for some sticky kids. when we make them in the house we cook them on the stove(gas) using a long fork. it makes them feel more like camping smores. peanut butter is the key to a perfict smore. it get alot messy, but well worth it. or a reecey cup works great also. a little less messy, but still great. have fun!

Something that might make smores easier is use graham cracker cookies already dipped in chocolate (if I recall correctly Keebler makes them).

Hi A.,
When you prepare the smores in the microwave don't leave them in for a minute, its just a few seconds on a microwavable plate, but don't add the chocolate or the other half of the cracker until it is done. Few seconds..like 5 to 10. Than add the other half and eat. Now we've also tried banana slices with the chocolate, haven't done the banana, chocolate, marshmellow..I'm sure that would be good, but you can also try banana, peanut butter and chocolate. Or dip in a chocolate sauce, of course all with graham crackers! We have tried the peanut butter and banana but haven't tried it with chocolate or marshmellows yet! Just experience and have fun..that's what taste testing and taste buds are all about and its always so fun with the kids!

Hi! I just wanted to pass along the way my family prepares smores. We put our graham crackers on a paper plate with the chocolate and a marshmellow. Microwave 10- 15 seconds and then put the other cracker on top. Quick, simple, and easy! For a variation, we have used some p-nut butter and a little coconut along with the chocolate and marshmellow. Kinda play around with things that you know your famliy likes! YUM!

This may or may not help you out. When I was growing up we had a tradition for when the power went out. (It happened alot in our rural area). My mom would get an unscented pillar candle out and light it (we put it in the center of our cooktop so no oops accidents) We would melt our marshmallows over the candle, sometimes using mini marshmallows. The fondu forks with the wooden handles work really well for this. Then we would assemble and enjoy. It was a lot of fun! We looked forward to power outages for this reason! Not too many families have all the makings for smores in their emergency kits!

P.S. If you really want to microwave them, don't put the graham cracker in just the marshmallow with the chocolate. I always use a little cooking spray on the micro plate I am using to make sure it comes out easily. I still prefer it over the candle though!

I had a thought while reading the other's suggestions...

*You could use a microwave save casserole dish, line it with something like parchment paper (or even coat it with butter)

*spread out something like "Golden Grahams" cereal (someone said something about the chocolate covered graham crackers!) or even partly broken up pieces of a sugar cone

*sprinkle with lots of miniature marshmallows, and whatever else you eant - pecans, almond slivers, toasted coconut, etc. (perhaps even toast the nuts before adding them to the mix)

At this point, you could heat that in the microwave or in the oven for just a little bit and then drizzle chocolate syrup over it (unless you used chocolate covered graham crackers or cookies)
OR
Before you heat it up, add some chocolate chips or roughly chopped up miniature reese's peanut butter cups.

After it's heated just enough to make it a little gooey, then serve it up on paper plates. (and make sure you've put bibs on the kids!)

I am a Girl Scout leader so as you can imagine, I've made MANY s'mores over the years! Most of them are the campfire type, but we do usually use the frosting instead of chocolate bars because you can prepare them ahead of time and it doesn't slide apart as much. The other thing we have done is use our Girl Scout Cookies called Thanks-A-Lots that are a shortbread cookie with chocolate on the bottom. The cookies may be called something different in other areas, but that is a less messy, less prep way to have them. The cookies freeze great so I stock up during the anual cookie sale and use them all year long!

I don't really like the way they turn out in the microwave. I remember as a teen my sisters and I would use a fork and roast them over the stove top (we had a gas range, but in college I discovered it works on an electric too).

Microwaved s'mores:

Break a long graham cracker in half. On one half put a piece of chocolate-- everyone knows regular Hershey's works best-- then add a large marshmallow. DO NOT PUT TOP ON. Put on plate. Microwave on high about 15 seconds per s'more. Immediately after removing from oven, plop on top cracker, smoosh down til the chocolate starts to get all melty and it splooshes out the side. YUM!

In my preschool class, we have made outdoor smores on a hot day. Just put together, wrap in foil, and put in a safe and sunny spot. (Be mindful of wind and bugs lol) then eat when they get all melty.

The Golden Grahams cereal boxes have a s'mor-ish recipe on the box which is quite yummy.

You can also do them in the oven or grill. Wrap them in foil. Try a few banana slices on them and/or a little peanut butter on one of the graham cracker, too!

I try to encourage people to stay AWAY from microwaving. REMEMBER.....this is RADIATION!!!!

I like to add peanut butter to second cracker. You can also do a Resess cup instead of chocolate. I love dark chocolate.

Okay, I know you've probably gotten many suggestions on microwave S'mores, but my family's favorite s'more is a toaster oven one. I line my toaster oven tray with foil and put two marshmellows on the foil and turn on the oven. You need to watch closely as when they start to brown, they'll do so quickly. After reaching the right color of toastiness, I pull out the tray, turn over the marshmellow and place them on a graham cracker and then put them back in the toaster oven. Once again, watch for your perfect shade of toastiness and then pull them out and make your s'more. They taste wonderful and are the closest to a campfire s'more without all the charcoal on them (unless you leave them in the toaster oven too long!). My family likes their s'more really melty, so I actaully put the chocolate on the graham cracker for the other side into the toaster oven for a few seconds while the second side of the marshmellow is toasting. Put the two sides together and enjoy!

We found chocolate marshmallow awhile back. I let the kids get them not thinking of s'mores, but now it is my favorite way to make them!!! No chunky chocolate stuck in my teeth... the marshmallow just melts and you can use one cracker or make a sandwich! I haven't been able to find those marshmallows lately though. :-((( Another time we used marshmallow fluff my mom had in the fridge and microwaved that with hershey bars in a bowl, then spread the mixture on the grahams. yum
