Anyone here try mineral make-up? Do you like it better than regular make-up? My skin can get oily, shiny and so I use a pressed powder from Clinique to cover it up, I don't think it looks very good anymore and want to try something different. I've never used a liquid foundation but have tried tinted moisturizers. I really don't like to wear a lot of make-up but just need something to help with the oil/shine appearance I get. Any tips?

What can I do next?

I will never use anything but bare minerals, I get it from JC penneys - I just wish I had found it sooner, it feels like you are wearing nothing, but it covers imperfections. I have oily skin too.

I have been using Bare Minerals for about 3 yrs now. All I get is possitive complements from people. I have a lot of imperfections on my face and Bare Minerals does the job. Its soft and very natural.
I too have oily sking and Bare Minerals takes care of that, I have tried just about everything out there in the market and nothing compares to Bare Minerals in my face.

I love bare minerals, they have different shades and types to use. Now that I am getting older and more fine lines, I need to use a primer first. I have very oily skin and love how it keeps it shine free for the most part, plus reapplying is so much easier. Easy to adjust coverage. I cannot use their brushes though, I have to get synthetic brushes because of allegies to animals products. Which kind of sucks, because I do like the quality of their brushes. I think most of thiers are camel hair, but I haven't used in them in so long not sure if they came out with something new.

I have been using Bare Minerals and I love it. It doesn't look like you have a foundation on. My skin is very dry so it doesn't dry my skin out like other make up. They have a product called veil thats like a translucent powder and it keeps the shine away. I would recommend it. I got my from Sephora in JC Penney's.

thanks for asking this. i see a lot of people love bare minerals. i have their powder and it goes on beautifully, but like everything else, after a couple of hours it just seems to accentuate rather than soften the lines.
i suppose i want a miracle.

I love Bare Minerals loose powders. They have translucent and tinted. You may also try the blotting papers by Clean and Clear. I also have oily skin and instead of packing more an more powder on my face throughout the day, I use the blotting papers every couple of hours to remove the excess oil. You can find them in most drugstores:

Bare minerals is excellent. But in your case, I would try blotting paper first. Sometimes when skin gets oily, the makeup(I don't remember is BM does this) gets darker when the oil is absorbed and it looks wierd.

I like Bare Minerals and Mary Kay Mineral Powder. I have oily skin too, and mary kay has an oil mattifier that i use in the morning before i put on my mineral powder foundation along with a primer. Very rarely do I get a shine, but on days when I might just be feeling a little more oily - blotting sheets work wonders.

I had good experience in the past with mineral make up but my facial skin has changed and it now looks cakey, but I used it successfully for 10yrs. Now, I use Lush's colour supplements and they are PERFECT! I still use the mineral viel from bare minerals to finish the look/set the foundation/concealer under my eyes mostly. I have sensitive skin that is best treated like aging skin although I am only 30 - as skin ages less powder and more cream/mousse style products work better. Many liquid foundations are just that too liquidy and settle into skin vs set on top softly. I suggest doing your typical routine minus the make up and going to a bare minerals store to try the product in the morning - spend your day doing LOTS of things and take pictures every few hours of your make up and make sure you still look fresh all day and you do not cake.
To control the oil on a daily basis wash your face with a cleanser for oily skin, use a toner and immediately moisturize your skin so your skin does not create more oils and overcompensate for having used the toner(strips oils). It may take doing this for a few days/week before your skin stops over producing oils but it should help.

Bare minerals is the best!!! I am the same as you. I have never used liquid foundation and don't like a whole lot of powder on my face. My skin can be oily as well. I have used bare minerals for like 4 years and have never looked back. I think the problem other people have had with it getting cakey is because they put too much on. I just put a light layer on and have never had a problem. For any pimples- it comes with a smaller applicator brush that you can put more onto those specific areas. But my skin looks even, natural and not oily. I have also reapplied throughout the day to mask any shine and still never had it look cakey.
Another tidbit. If you buy it at sephora and decide you dont like it- they will take it back.
Good luck.

Another vote for Mary Kay's mineral foundation. I have very fair skin and they even have a shade light enough for me (unlike Bare Minerals). I have combination skin and it just gives everything a nice, balanced look. I get a lot of compliments on my skin wearing it.

I too, used to use Bare Minerals and thought the finished product looked fabulous. However, I felt that the powder would settle into my 'fine lines' and really accentuated them within an hour or so....I have yet to find a makeup that really lasts like some of the claims that are made. Good luck, I will be checking back to see others responses for my own research!

I sell Mary Kay! And mostly everything is going to mineral, however a good skincare is what you need. You need a good cleanser and moisturizer for your skin type. There are also oil control lotions that will help. As for the shine you can use the powder or you could use beauty blotters that are tissue like and you blot your face right over your makeup with out messing up your makeup! I hope this helps you!

I was diagnosed with Rosacea a few years ago and cannot wear anything but mineral makeup. Over the last few years I have experimented and tried a lot of different brands and my favorite mineral makeup that I use daily is Pur 4 in 1. I purchased a better brush to apply and it really covers well and agrees with my skin. You can purchase on line or at Ulta Stores. Here is a link to which one I use. http://www.purminerals.com/4-in-1-Pressed-Mineral-Makeup-...
(I tried Bare Minerals but was not happy with the coverage. PUR is awesome!)

Jane Iredale pressed powder will do amazing things for your oily skin. It's a mineral makeup line (www.janeiredale.com) and the difference in quality between it and something like Bare Minerals is noticeable. Bare Minerals is fine, lots of people like it, but Jane is really great, especially for oily skin. You can find retailers near you on their website.

Do you have Sephora's close to you? they can help you pick the appropriate make up AND you get to try it on before buying it! Plus, if you decide you don't like it after trying it at home, you can return it...no questions asked! I work at Sephoras and personally don't love Mineral Make up. There are better options like Make Up Forever or Benefit foundation. Good luck!

Jane Iredale PurePressed Base is great, but it can get a little cakey if you put too much on or if your skin is too dry. It's a great product, though. Since your skin gets oily, it should be a good foundation for you. I also love MyChelle mineral base. It's a stick foundation, and it's less dry than the Jane Iredale pressed foundation. Sounds like the Jane Iredale base would be good for you; however, when it's really hot & humid here in the summer, I still need some extra shine control (like blotting papers or shine control gel) on my t-zone when I'm using the Jane base. If you buy online, call the Jane Iredale 800 phone number, because choosing a shade can be a bit tricky on your own. Good luck!
