Hello Ladies, For the last few months I've seen lots of hype over mineral makeup. Have any of you out there tried it ? Is it any good or is it just hype? Does it offer the awesome coverage it says it does ? Does it look natural or cakey ? What brand do you recommend ?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies for all of your responses. I just tried Bare Essential/Bare Escentuals it doesn't have good coverage for under eye circles and in the afternoon I look so shiny and oily like I've been sweating. Did I apply it wrong ? Is there mineral makeup that doesn't look so shiny ?

I use bare minerals and I love it, does not look cakey at all. I recently bought the Loreal mineral make up and I thought it was okay. But I will be sticking with bare minerals.

I have used both Bare Minerals and Arbonne's mineral makeup. I like them both about the same. The Bare Minerals one is a bit too dark for me, but works well if I just use the lighter shade all over and the darker shade at the cheeks. It is slightly thick and glittery. The Arbonne one has worked very well for me as well... as it's the right color for me (there are so many to chose from) and it has spf of 15 in it. It glides on so nicely, never cakes, and never seems to dry out my face. I believe the Arbonne one is cheaper and comes in a larger tub.

I have been using GloMinerals and I love it! It was first recommended by my laser hair removal spa doctor which was a women first of all and is a dermatologist/plastic surgeon. So I figured it must be good and worth a shot because I was not really a make-up kinda of girl. Two years later I still use it because it goes on very light, not cakey as some make-up tend be and has great coverage with built in UV protection. I use the GloPressed Base and it is all I need. I am not a rep for them or anything, I have just been searching for make-up anwsers much like yourself. Check out their website:

I've tried several of them, because of my inner cheapskate. :) Anyway, I'm stuck on the bare minerals. It really is great and covers well and looks natural, not cakey. The only thing I had to learn was to be careful about how much moisturizer I put on before I put the make up on. When it's hot, if I put on too much moisturizer, it's not pretty. :) I recommend the bare minerals for sure. I did the "club" thing off their website. But, I ended up cancelling that and getting it from Ulta or Sephora (which is inside the JCPenney that is very close to me). It's definitely worth the money and it MUCH better than anything else I've tried.

I have been using Bare Minerals now for about a year and I love it. I never wore a lot of makeup before because I hated the way it felt on my face, especially liquid foundation. This stuff is great and it's so easy to use. You can have as much coverage as you want/need based on how you apply it and it really works well for me. It's so gentle on your skin too. I would definitely give it a shot. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of those products that actually lives up to the hype. I was totally skeptical when I got it...I basically only did it because I was with my girlfriends and they were raving about it and buying it that day too. I'm glad I did though....it's great!

I have been using Bare Escentuals for two years. The one thing I don't like is traveling with it. I wish they'd bake their minerals for travel (like Laura Gellar). However, It is light, it covers everything, it does not come off when you sweat.
I recommend getting a starter kit that you can buy for like $60 or so. Try it for a couple months, then branch out into their kits, etc.
Good luck.

I did some research as I had the same reaction as you, looking oily and shiny after a short time in Mineral make up. Mineral make ups contain the mineral Mica. Mica is natural and has a reflective nature which is why the make up looks so natural when you first put it on. But when you add our oily skin type the result is major shine! I find it is a nice make up for touch ups but I need an oil absorbing properties and have returned to oil free liquid makeup with an oil absorbing powder.

Hi K.,

I bought Bare Escentials the week before Christmas at Ulta Cosmetics. I love it. It feels very light and it is not cakey or greasy. I have a very oily t zone, and I can't even tell I have make up on. Now, with that said, the coverage is great. Basically, it enhances your skin tone without covering up your face. My husband said I looked as though I was glowing.
I bought the starter kit for $60 and the eye kit for $49 and both come with the same DVD to show you how it works.
I didn't believe it and was a total skeptic, but I love it now.

Good luck.

I use Bare Minerals, and it works really well. My only problem is that it's VERY expensive to me and I have to order it online since there isn't a store that sells it close to me. The coverage is great and it's very easy to use more or less depending on what you feel you need.

A friend of mine is using the new mineral make up made by Covergirl (I think that's who makes it) and she said that she's never going to buy Bare Minerals again, because the drug store brand works just as good.

I've heard good things about Bare Minerals. Mary Kay has just come out with their own version. I've just started using it and I really like it. I'm a Mary Kay consultant, so if you interested in trying it out, let me know. You can look at my website www.marykay.com/dtautry

I have really good discounts for new customers and if for any reason you don't like what you purchased, it is refundable.

I use Bare Minerals, and LOVE it. I have very sensitive skin and oily, and it offers great coverage. It looks natural and definitely not cakey. My only negative - it can be pretty messy, but worth it to me.

I used to use Bobbi Brown and Mac, but I like this so much better. I don't like the eye shadows though - I use Mac still for that.

Sephora and Ulta have the starter kits for $60 - and it comes with brushes too!

I have been using Bare Minerals for about 3 years and I absolutely love it. It is a little pricey initially, but once you use the sample packs in the kits and move up to the larger containers they last a long time. Definitely worth the money in my opinion. The makeup is not cakey and it blends very well unlike liquid foundation.

I can see that several independant beauty consultants have given advise about their products. I am also a consultant and out or respect to you and those who have already put plugs in for their businesses, I will refrain from doing the same, but rather offer a few tips.

Even if you are using a mineral makeup - we could all benefit from concealer from time to time. I have personally fought under eye circles since I was a child. I also have fought oily skin. Along with mineral foundations - I use a oil mattifier on hot or hormonal days and concealer almost daily. I tested concealer tints with the my mineral foundation outside and in my work office (where lights are stronger). I love the mineral foundations - and my skin has never been clearer. Good luck to you!
