Miocrodermabrasion Products

Has anyone used over the counter microdermabrasion products. If so, what has been your experience? I have oily skin & some occasional acne breakouts, but I have always had problem skin. When I closely examine my face, it looks as if I need to exfoliate. I do use a mask from ProActiv. I had considered using a mild scrub, but I don't want to scrub too much, as that has caused breakouts in the past. Any suggestions?

Hi B.,

I have been using the entire Mary Kay skin care line, including microdermabrasion products, and they work very well for me. It is important to use the entire suggested Mary Kay skin care line along with it because dermabrasion products alone are too harsh on the skin w/out regular use of the cleanser, moisturizer, etc.

My suggestion is to find a complete line that you are comfortable with and use the entire line. Don't skip around to lots of different products, ie Aveeno cleanser, Burt's Bees moisturizer, Lancome toner, Clinique mask, etc.

Good luck!

I had really bad acne at one particularly stressful period in my life. I found that gentle, gradual exfoliation through daily washing worked best without wrecking my skin. I had good success with two products: Aveeno Radiant Skin wash, which had exfoliation beads in it, and Naturgo clay wash made by Sheshiedo. You can find the Naturgo wash on amazon for about $8. Look for the black tube. Make sure you moisturize well and be very gentle with the scrubbing. I had to stop after a few months because my skin became too sensitive, but now it's clear and smooth and exfoliation is no longer needed.

Ok, I realize this combination may sound weird, but I swear it works great!
I have combination skin and when I mentioned this at Marietta Health Foods (I'm also not a "health nut", just get good quality supplements and skin care) Debbie, the owner recommended Natural Clay powder mixed with Apple Cider Vinegar. You make a paste out of it, apply and leave on for 20 min. then wash off with water and moisturize.
Your skin (as she said) will look red for about 30 min., but it will feel great. So, I do this at night and use an organic night cream. It makes a world of difference.
Hope this helps.

yes... the Mary Kay Microderm set is as good as everyone says! I have also just recently found a new line from Biore' which I did not used to like, however, their new products are for in-between skin. So it is antiaging plus helps with breakouts as well. They do not use any of the Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid either. I personally use the gel cleanser, moisturizer with spf, and the microderm scrub. I use the cleanser and moisturizer morning and night and the microderm scrub 2-3 times a week. I have noticed my skin is very smooth and the products smell great!

Hi, B.. I too have experienced acne as an adult but not as a teenager. As an Avon rep, I decided to try the Avon Clearskin Professional acne system because all the OTC and prescription stuff I had tried in the past either made my skin worse with more break-outs or I found out I was allergic to some of the ingredients (like benzoil peroxide) which are found in most of the acne meds out there but not the Avon acne meds. After 3 days, I noticed my skin becoming clearer and more normal looking than it has been in the last 10 years. I don't have that 'sandpaper' feel to my skin anymore from underlying pimples, and I am now able to wear more sheer make-up than the heavier coverage make-up I was wearing to camouflage my blemishes and break-outs. I just ordered the Avon Advanced Dermabrasion System myself but will not start using it until this week-end. If it performs as well as the studies Avon has done shows, I am sure I'll love the results. I have been using Avon skincare and make-up and other products for over half my life (just turned 39 in January) and have always found the products to be better than they say they are, and that is not just an Avon rep talking but a long-time customer speaking. Anyway, I wish you luck with your skin care and hope that you'll check out my Avon website (www.youravon.com/dtesnear)to see the great line-up of products that Avon offers. If you have any questions about how well something works, just give me a call at ###-###-####. I try the products myself and am even participating in an Avon research survey right now about the products, the marketing, and the customer experience. I don't know any company that cares more about people than Avon from its foundation that supports breast cancer research and fights against domestic violence to the unparalleled product line it offers to people world-wide, and that's why I'm so excited to tell everyone I meet about the Avon experience.

Mary Kay's microdermabrasion is wonderful-especially on oily skin. You only use it once a week to every 3 days depending on your skin. And the best part is it's only 2 steps...and no gadgets! Just keep in mind, any time you try a new line of skin care-you have to give it at least a 2 week period of using regularly. Your skin will breakout because it is getting all those impurities cleaned out of your pores. So some breakout is normal. I welcome the opportunity to let you "try before you buy". www.marykay.com/ccantrell72

Thanks!

Hi B.-
I am not a Mary Kay consultant, and I don't know anyone who is. BUT, I've tried the Mary Kay microdermabrasion, and it is by far the best I've used. If you are looking for something less expensive, the Garnier Fructis microdermabrasion set is also very good. I've used a lot of different scrubs and micro-scrubs, and these two are my faves.

Hi B.,

I've used a number of Microdermabrasion products over the years and I would recommend Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Rejuvenator. I've been using it for several months and I can see the difference.

I had acne as a teenager and I still occasionally break out. This system really deep cleans my pores and leaves my skin feelings freshed, smooth and clean. The best thing about this product is that it's available everywhere. It's at most grocery and drug stores like CVS, Publix, Kroeger and Walgreens. It can also be ordered online at drugstore.com and many other online sites.

I would encourage you to go to drugstore.com research Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Rejuvenator and read the reviews for yourself. It's a bit pricey up front but once you make the initial investment, the refills are pretty affordable.

Neutrogena also has an Advanced Dermabrasion Kit as well. You may want to check into that as well.

I hope this helps.

My daughter had some acne problems. I bought her a acne treatment kit that contains a facial wash, a deep-cleaning astringent, a acne treatment cream, and a blemish stick for $15.99. These products contain teatree oil, refreshing menthol, witch hazel, and derived salicylic acid. My daughter says that the kit makes her face tingle and feel clean. It has cleared her face up completely and thanks to daily use her face stays clear.

No I haven't but I love my Shaklee products which include a very wonderful gentle scrub as well as a full line of other products. I love a scrub too but worry about it being too rough but the Shaklee one is great as it seems to really do the job but in a very gentle way. Refining Polisher - All Skin Types -Rejuvenate, Exfoliate, Protect.

For what it is worth that is my experience.

Sincerly,

Oh my, I have a perfect product line for you!!! It's a brand new one and uses Fresh Science technology, extracts fresh cells of 5 fruits and veggies, encapsulates them using a natural enzyme process (a lot of other companies may be natural but the process to get the natural ingredients uses petrochemicals), and then they release when they hit your skin. I have 4 or 5 customers who have already seen their acne clear, their oily skin balance and imperfections diminish. I can help and can give you a demo kit to try to see how it works with your skin. But, I think you will be pleased!! Let me know!

I am not a huge Mary Kay fan, but their microdermabrasion product is the best one I've tried. It sounds like we have similar skin issues. If you are worried about how rough you are being, you could consider a really good facial. Amber at Urban Nirvana in the South Windemere shopping centre is awesome and will be honest with you about products to use whether or not they are carried at her spa.

Hi, I am also a Mary Kay Consultant and our microdermabrasion products are the best. And when you compare the price of going to a dermatologist, our prices are reasonable. But if you have blemish prone skin, I would not recommend using something abrassive. It will aggrevate your skin if used as a acrub. We do have a great clay based mask that is designed for oily/blemish prone skin. I would love to send you a sample of our products with no obligation. I live in Georgia and depending on where you live, I can give you a facial or mail you the samples. Visit my website www.marykay.com/fnelson1 and contact me for a free sample.

I use the Mary Kay Microdermabrasion product, and it is wonderful. You use it only twice a week. It costs around $55.00. The set usually lasts 9 months to a year. One of my favorite products from Mary Kay. It makes your skin feel so smooth.

I am a Mary Kay Consultant and I have to agree our Micro Derm is the best!! Yes, you may think that it is a little expensive. But if you do it once or twice a week it will last you about 3 months or more. So when you break it down by the month or the amount of uses you get out of it, it is all worth it! And let me tell you that your pores will become smaller and you skin will be very smooth and you will be happy! My niece had very bad bad acne as a teen and it took me a long time to convince her to start using our Velocity system(cleanser and moisturizer) and once she tried it, she was so happy. Now she uses the microderm and couldn't be happier. She gets so many comments about how good her skin is looking. In order for a skin care system to work properly you must use all steps. As one of the others commented, moisturizer is very important even with oily skin. Your skin will try to balance itself if you are only uses something to dry up your breakouts which will result in a lot of oil. Moisturizer helps your skin find that correct balance. If you are interested in trying the velocity system (not expensive at all) or mictroderm please email me. Our products are 100% guaranteed if you are unhappy. I live in SC and you are in GA, but I ship to you at no extra cost. Please feel free to read about these products on my website. www.marykay.com/dstorman

Good Luck!

Yes I have used and are currently using oil of olay microderm products and love them...feels like I went to a spa (used to years ago before I had kids and a hubby) my skin has improved. It cost about 23.99 or so it comes in a small pack and well worth the price. My doctors office has a nurse that used it and she told me about it. You know it never hurst to stop at one of those salons and ask what they would do (not actually using their service) and then purchase the products over the counter to try yourself at home. I have learned even with oily skin you do need to exfoliate but be kind to your skin even with oil skin you need some moisturizer too. I used to have oily skin and break outs now I am usually dry. I had really bad acne at age 24 after many pills from the derm doctor and many creams...I stopped and started going to a salon monthly, they helped my skin way more and that helped me that's when I learned how to care for my skin.

You should do some exfoliate even with oily skin....
