I am looking for anyone that has had the experience with the birth control method of the mirena IUD. I have looked online and found some answers to a couple questions but I wanted some personal experiences about conceiving after having the IUD has been removed. Thanks

Hi A.!

I hate to be a downer-but i had serious problems with mirena. i expelled mine out the wall of my uterus and needed to have it surgicaly removed. this was after having a laproscopy to try and find out if the iuc was still in my uterus.

I have been told I am a 1 in a million case, but this is something you have to know going in. and check for the strings every month because you can expell it and not know it, trust me i had the conversation with Kathy (ultrasound tech goddess) about well you would think it would be something youd notice if you passed it vaginaly.

My body rejected the iuc, didnt expell it, and it went through the wall of my uterus. this was after it was inplace for 15 months.

if you have done your homework you should be fine, dont get complacent with it. mine dislodged in september ( they think) and we didnt find out untill march. this is a very safe method for most.

i hope my point of view helped you some,
K.

Hello,

I had the Mirena put in about 3 months ago, i love it! you don't have to worry about it at all! It hurts a little getting it put in but just a pinch and it's very fast. After that you can't feel it at all. You don't have to remeber to take it everyday and your period get lighter and then disappear all together, what more could you want!!!

Hi. I have a 10 month old son and I got my Mirena when he was 5 months old. I love it. I have almost no bleeding, which is expected with Mirena, but also I am breastfeeding so that my have an influence on my bleeding too. I am a nurse-midwife and I provide Mirenas for my patients everyday. The return to fertility is immediate after removal so Mirena is an excellent reversible contraception. Good luck. S.

Research is good and I would imagine that many women have had success with IUDs. However, I would still caution about putting or implanting ANYTHING foreign into your body for months at a time that isn't life saving. Regardless of what is advertised to women, it can result in lost IUDs and infection. One such case is a women who was told her IUD has "passed" on its own. She eventually grew an 11lb tumor around it and when it was removed, there was the IUD. Do your research and get regular check ups (which this woman did not until she had a bigger problem!)

Hello!
I too had experienced difficulties with the Mirena IUD. I had it for 3 yrs and was experiencing cramping constantly, my period completely stopped which I didn't care for because I am unaware whats going on with my body if my period never comes, weight gain, weight loss delay despite regular daily workouts, depression, headaches, chronic yeast infections, etc. I always felt it-I could literally feel that something foreign was inside my uterus. After doing some research on it, I found so many women also had negative reactions to it, and the same symptoms that I was experiencing. In my research, I've found that more women have endured negative experiences with the Mirena IUD vs. women who were symptom free and happy with it.
I think when its said that the hormones in the Mirena are localized to the uterus and do not enter one's bloodstream is a bunch of hooey because if that were true, it wouldn't affect so many women the way it has been known to do.
After having a negative personal experience with it, I personally would not recommend it to anyone. A dear friend had her Mirena inserted a year after I got mine and she was experiencing so many negative reactions too it that she had hers recently removed and is already feeling better.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck with your decision.
Laura~

I just had the Paraguard put in last week. It was funny because as the Dr. was doing the procedure, she was all "why didn't you get Mirena, it is better." Thanks for the tip after I already spent the nonrefundable $500!

I went with the Paraguard after all of my research because I am still breastfeeding and I have never had much luck on birth control pills. They make me a little crazy. So I opted for the Paraguard. My Dr. told me, again, as she was inserting the Paraguard, that the hormones in Mirena are localized and only go into the lining of your uterus, not your blood stream. She said that both brands are effective, but that the Paraguard makes your periods heavier and the Mirena makes your periods lighter. Again, thanks for the tip Dr. where was all of this great advice when I was asking you about alternative birth control :-) I should have asked the moms first!

I have had the IUD in for two days now and other than some pretty serious cramping the day it was inserted and a few days of light spotting, I am all good.

I was on the Mirena IUD. I had it removed after a year (because I wanted to get pregnant) and had no difficulty getting pregnant.

I got it after my daughter was born. I think it's fantastic. After it is inserted, you don't even feel that anything is there. It lasts for 5 years and takes away any worry of getting pregnant. Also, an added bonus is that your period becomes very light. If you decide to have another child, you can have it removed and start trying immediately without affect.

Hope this is helpful!

Well both my girlfriend and I have this IUD. I still have mine, but she had to have her's removed due to being allergic to one of the hormones. She ended up getting pregnant about two weeks after having it removed. Boy what a shock that was to her husband. I think everyone has different reactions to hormones and that can work in your favor or not.

I wanted to use the mirena IUD but was unable for medical reasons. I have three friends who have done it and they swear by it. At first, they had slight cramping and were uncomfortable but these side effects didn't last long. Once it was in place, they had absolutely no complications. Since then, one of my friends had it removed and was pregnant within months. Personally, I can't comment on it but I vouch for my friends who love it.

Hi A., I just had one inserted about one and a half months ago. I love the convenience of not having to take a pill, and yet it is not permanent the way having tubal ligation is (I'm 40, and I'm probably not having any more kids but I wasn't 100% sure yet). The only thing I will tell you is that depending on how you are shaped down there, the insertion can be difficult and extremely painful. I almost fainted from the pain. On the plus side, I only had cramping for that day, and I've been pain free ever since! Good luck to you!
