Hello everyone!

I am in need of some advice. The past 2 weeks I have felt nauseated periodically. Usualy it occurs in the morning.... food doesn't help. It happened 2 days in a row... but then stopped for a day or two and then happened again. I took a pregnancy test but it was negative. Then a couple days ago (Saturday)...I spotted a lil. I'm not due for my period until Feb 29th. Monday, I had gotten my period. However, it was kind of a dark red/ brownish color. Now it's more of a brighter red. Monday I had some serious cramping... and some today (just not as bad) And I hardly ever have any forms of cramping. My sister says I could have cysts (ovarian cancer runs in my family), but a friend says I might be having a miscarriage even though I don't think I'm pregnant. As far as clotting..... well I'm not 100% sure what's normal and what's considered a clot. Can anyone help me out? Should I contact my doctor?

What can I do next?

Unfortunately, I had 3 miscarriages a few years ago. Each of them started with spotting and cramping. Eventually they were pretty heavy periods. However, I had a pregnancy test prior to this happening and it was positive.
The best way to find out what happened is to see your doctor. He/she may be able to tell if you had a miscarriage. Either way, you should have a check up since ovarian cancer runs in your family. I don't think this has anything to do with that but at least you can find out if you have any cysts. Sometimes stress can cause your period to do some strange things.
If you did have a miscarriage, you probably do not need to do anything else.
Good Luck!

You should see your doctor. This is time for a medical diagnosis and not word from the man in the street. We are talking about your physicality not something to play with and not a time for public opinion. Go to the doctor now. I know you're probably scared but you know what, better safe than sorry. Do this for your adorable little girl but more than that, for yourself and your own peace.

If you consider this is not normal in your menstrual cycles, you SHOULD see your doctor. You should never second guess your health! That's the best advise anyone can give you who is not a doctor!
Good luck!

Your sister might be right, but just to be on the safe side and to get all negative thoughts out of the way, I would go for a check up at once. Your 4 year old depends on you, so you owe it to her to be as healthy as possible.

If ovarian cancer runs in your family, you should definitely see your doctor! Not that your symptoms sound like cancer, to me it sounds like a period, but wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? Than if it was a miscarriage the doctor will be able to tell you and do anything that needs to be done. Some periods are just different than others! Good luck!

This is my little advice...you have too many doubts so why not going to the doctor??

It is better to just go and he says everything is OK than being at home thinking what was that, don't you think??

I hope is nothing wrong and only an early period or something.

Good luck!

Hi Amy,
So sorry you are going through this! Hormonal imbalances can and most often do cause nausea and many other symptoms (ie; spotting, fatigue etc.) so I wouldn't worry too much. However, you are probably alright and chances are, your body is off balance which is not that unusal from time to time. That being said, you know your body better than anyone, and if you have always been pretty regular with your periods and this is definitely something abnormal for you, call your obgyn anyway just to be sure. It could just require a doctor talk and maybe not an actual visit. If it happens again after this period (if you in fact get your period) then your physician may want to do some tests and/or an exam. Obviosly it is always better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and feel better!

You could also be having implantation bleeding. It feels very similar to a mild period and there is usually bleeding that is darker in color. It doesn't happen with every pregnancy. I would just go to the doctor.

Hi

Please remember, as my good friend, a pediatrition always tells me, doctors are supposed to be part of your good health TEAM. They are there for questions... that's how they get paid and they are doctors becuase they WANT to HELP. No question is stupid and particularly when it comes to bleeding or pain in the abdomen, chest, serious headaches etc. If you feel that your doctor will not take you seriously, call to see or talk to them and then start looking to change doctors. There are great dr.s in this area.

A little about me: I have a 4 yr old, a 1 yr old, and worked in the area of infertility education and support. I am from Hollywood. and wish you the best.

You should contact your doctor. It could be a miscarrage or it could be etopic pregnancy. In an ectopic pregnancy, a fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus. In case you want more information check this page out http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/pregnancy_newborn/pregna... a friend of mine had similar symptoms to you and also had a negative pregnancy test. When her spotting turned into bleeding she just thought it was a normal period. In the end she was rushed in for and emergency DNC.
Even if this is not the cause I always think it is better to be safe.
Hope it all goes well

It could be either. You should definitely call your doctor because even if it's a cyst giving you pain, the clotting and blood doesn't mean it went away. The same thing happened to me. At first they thought it was a cyst that burst or a miscarriage even though I had no pregnancy symptoms. When I had the pain again a couple months later they did an ultrasound and found the cyst was still there and growing. I eventually needed surgery on the cyst because it was growing and damaging my ovary. So definitely call your doctor and get the ball rolling on finding out what it could be. Oh and no worries about being able to get pregnant when something happens like that...I had my son after the surgery.
