Modified Alternative Vaccine Schedule?

Hi all!

I've been reading Dr. Sears' book as I can in spite of a busy schedule. I think his alternative schedule is fine except that I'd prefer to get some shots sooner for my son, especially Hep B. But I have a couple of questions running in my head:

1) The clinic says they get their shots from the state. So if we get combo shots for 4 and 6 months, how much aluminium would there be? Would it be more, less or the same if we got separate shots?

2) My son got the routine 2 month shots plus a catch up Hep B. He got 2 shots and 1 oral. I know the oral was the Rotavrius. What combo brands could the others have been? How much aluminum, I wonder?

3) Sure, splitting up the shots may lessen side effects and make it easier to identify the culprit in case of an adverse reaction. But if we follow Dr. Sears' alternative schedule, the baby will be getting more shots, like every month for the first 6 months. Isn't there any danger or harm in this?

What has been your experience with Dr. Bob's schedule? How do you talk to your doctor about it? Do I need to schedule it with him or the nurse? What brands should I get? It is a little confusing because I want to modify his schedule. I read you could now get the HIB and Hep B in a combo shot, and also the DTap, Polio and HIB shot. But how much aluminum would there be?

What's your advice?

Oh, and please, don't worry. I am not anti-vaccine. I heard there are lots of people who skip vaccines in Washington. I don't want my baby to catch any in case of an outbreak. That's why I am thinking of getting some of the shots earlier than Sears recommends. I just want to be careful.

Here's the schedule we're considering:

DONE:

Birth - None

1 month - Hep B

2 months - Hep B, DTaP, Pc, HIB, Rotavirus, Polio (2 shots, 1 oral)

3 months - None

COMING UP / PLANNED:

4 months - DTaP, Rotavirus, Polio

5 months - Pc, HIB

6 months - DTaP, Rotavirus

7 months - Pc, HIB, Hep B?

9 months - Hep B?, Flu

1 year - Mumps

15 months - Pc, HIB

18 months - DTaP, Chickenpox

2 years - Polio, Rubella

The rest are like Dr. Sears'.

Edit: I thought one DTaP combo has like 1,500 mcg of aluminum? Anyway, the pediatrician told us that if we split the vaccines it would mean more aluminum total. But would splitting it into 2 shots (one month apart) help? As for Hep B, it's in case the baby needs blood transfusion or gets a cut (hope not but just in case - or do you think that's too paranoid?)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I've tried to do what research I can. And it seems there is no end to what both camps have to say. The best we can think of doing is to spread out the shots. My son got the DTaP, Polio and HIB combo shot at 4 months. He went through that without any problems. We're happier with that than when he got a bunch of shots at 2 months. We will come back for the Pc and Rota when he is 5 months. We will spread the 6 month shots too and may put off the next Hep B. I don't want to get the MMR and chickenpox all at once. I hope we can get the MMR as split doses and get them for him when he is older. We do have to stay on the alert though, as I have heard many kids do not get vaccinated in Washington. Thanks!

According to studies you should not give vaccines to kids under 2. When you do you should separate the DPT into three separate shots.

There is statistics out there and I know of several in my small town that have autism because of vaccines. Be careful - if you must vaccinate do so at a later stage. The babies immune system isn't built for bugs to be introduced in such a small baby.

Any reason you want Hep B so soon? I'm assuming you know it is transmitted by unprotected sex and IV drug use. If anything, that is one I would skip for now, or put off as your newborn is not at risk.

I didn't know that they had aluminum in them, so I will have to look into that...my baby is 6 months old, and we have been splitting her shots up. I won't let her have more than 2 at any one visit, so she has had to make several special trips to just get vaccines, but that way I know she won't be overwhelmed by them. I have mostly been worried about autism even though they say its not a cause or factor, but my nephew got it after his shots (he's 14 now) so I'm being extra careful.

When we went to get her second dose of the Rhotovirus the nurse (who does shot only appointments not the doc) said that there was a bad batch and so they had all been recalled and our babies just don't get anymore this season because there is a timeline that has to be followed very strictly for that one.

I am personally opposed to the flu shot because after reading the data on how ineffective they were for the last several years, it seemed like an unnecessary risk. If I remember correctly, last years flu shot was only active against less than 10% of the many strains of flus that affected people. I did however get the H1N1 to protect my family because I work in the schools.

I don't know what a PC shot is, or any particular brands, but I would go with the combo shots because do you really want to make your baby have more than she would otherwise? I don't know about you, but I hate to get shots.

I hope this gives you a little bit of information and helps. Its such a hard and tricky subject to try and make decisions on. Good Luck! and Good for you for making sure that your little one is protected.

I haven't read the book so I'm not sure what reasoning Dr. Sears gives for a delayed schedule. I would say that it would depend on what your major concern is. As far as I know there are 2 reasons people delay or worry about shots. 1: believing that combining shots is too much of an overload to the immune system...so yes your child will be going in more frequently to get a shot rather than doing several at one visit. 2: Worried about the adjuvants and preservatives (aluminum, etc.): if that is the case, then the more combo vaccines and live vaccines used are the better way to go. http://www.chop.edu/export/download/pdfs/articles/vaccine...

Definatly love the alternative vaccination schedule, but would talk to a naturopath who specializes in pediatrics beforehand. A good one is Dr. Jen Curtis at The Herb Shoppe, she gives talks on alternative vaccines too. As for Hep B & chickenpix vaccines, I don't see any reason for a baby to have it. And would also be very very catious about giving the MMR one too.

Take great care with any shots. Did you know it is illegal in Japan to give shots to anyone under 2 since so many babies die from shots? You might also just google autism and vaccinations as well as dangers of vaccinations.

you should do some research before taking on such a big shot schedule.
last month there was a massive recall on Rotavirus, given by the FDA, you can go to Dr.Mecola.com and read about it and all of the other shots as well, and as for the hep b shot which is worthless b/cuz your baby isn't having sex or sharing needles, chicken pox shot is just another way for the maker of this garbage to make more money, doctors will tell u other wise but that is how they make more money, protect your child and educate yourself before you subject her to poison..... goodluck

You just listed what I counted was 27 vaccines by the time a child is two. Would you want to take 27 vaccines in the next two years? What about giving them to an infant with an immature immune system? The biggest question is whether or not the vaccines are safe for one, and effective for another. Do you know what tissue the viruses are grown on? What neuro-toxic additives are used in the products? What other kinds of DNA particles are found in them? Do populations which don't vaccinate have less autism? Why big Pharma is pushing these vaccinations on us? Why aren't some of them tested first? How long does the protection last? Why was there an increase in miscarriages in those who took flu vaccine? Please consider these questions before vaccinating. Check out the National Vaccine Information Center and Dr. Mercola.com before giving them to your infant. You can also check out naturopathic type vaccinations. I hope these sources help you decide what vaccinations are really necessary and what schedule to give them on.

I'm not sure the answer to your specific questions but I thought I'd direct you to a video that might be able to help with regard to your particular concerns. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdLMeULoujM
It's done by an MD and is called "Vaccines: the risks, the benefits, & the choices" and walks through each childhood vaccine explaining what it is and how it works so you can make an informed decision.
Hope it helps!

From what I have seen I saw no reason to break from the Doctor recommended schedule. I though it was less traumatic to get more shots less often than to give them shots every month for the first year, but that is what worked for us. You know your kids better than anyone, so sit down with your doctor and find the schedule that will work the best for you.

You can find all the info and research done in the are of vaccines through the government websites. I have heard Dr. Sears has the most rreasonable alternative schedule, but I found there is no reason I had read yet to deter me from using the doctors recommended schedule. I havve however read numerous articles on how dangerous it is going to be for kids who rely on blanket protection, becasue that blanket is getting thinner and thinner. I know it is a personal decision,There have been numerous reports this year stating clearly that Autism does not have any link to vaccinations, however there are reactions that can be debilitating. I have always followed the recommendations, and I have several family members who have and friends, I really cannot say I know one person, who has had any issues with vaccination. My SIL claims, but he was never up to date, and she drank, and did drugs so I don't believe any of his issues are related to vaccination.
I have heard splitting them is worse than using the combo as well, and they might be hard to find individually. Good Luck, and good job researching things. People should not follow blindly! Now if only we could get some parents to consider that car accidents are the #1 killer of children under 14, and research car safety with as much passion, maybe we could save more children from death and injury!
