My baby is almost 10 months and he refuses a bottle and cant figure out a sippy cup at all BUT he can kinda drink out of a regular cup, I have tried a couple different kinds of sippies and he doesn't get it. My older two had no problems. I realize he is young but I am sick of always nursing him and would like to slowly ween him because I feel like he will be one tough cookie to get off the breast! Any suggestions of sippies or if anyone else had this issue your feedback would be GREATLY appreciated!

What can I do next?

See if he'll drink from a straw. My youngest niece hated using sippy cups so my mom tried her on a straw and she loves it- and does very well. At first, she used the ones that the straw part is soft plastic/rubber and you have to bite down on it a bit to get the liquid flowing and it also goes into the lid part so it isn't always sticking out. Sorry, I don't remember the name but I got them at Meijer or Target and they still sell them in a 1 or 2 pack. Now she'll drink from any type of straw with no problem. Good Luck!

My oldest was the same way. Also BF and had limited bottles. We tried all kinds. The winner was the cup with the straw and then the Dr. Brown's sippy cup.

My just turned 9 month old came across her sister's Take N Toss sippy, picked it up and drank like a pro. She is also BF and had limited bottles. Just proves that no two kids from the same parents are the same. Lol.

She also likes the straw type.

Good luck. Don't worry if you find yourself buying several kinds. You will eventually use them all once he figures out how to use them (and they start missing in action). :)

I had the same problem with my BF baby. Another mom introduced me to Tilty cups, and he could use them instantly and easily. They are also great for learning to drink out of a real cup cause the baby tilts the cup, not his head. Google tilty-they are the best!!

My DD had the same problem at about that age... I had bought some beginner playtex one because I didn't know the difference and she couldn't figure them out... I tried taking the valve out and she would just make a mess with it (apparently a fun toy) I ran across the Nuby kind with the soft tops (kind of like a bottle nipple, soft but shaped like a sippy cup) and she was able to get water out easily, she will now drink out of any cup but still loves these!!

All of my kids were breastfed as well and did not understand how to get anything from the sippy cup. I usually had to start out by removing the valve from the cup and allowing them to sip from it while I held the cup. This can be messy. I would put either breast milk or juice in the cup. After they realize that they can get something out of the cup, I would then put the valve back in and let them try again. You may have to take the valve out and put it in several times each try before he gets the idea.

I would also recommend trying a Nuby beginner cup.

Also (and I don't know where you can buy them or what they're called) our WIC office offers a great cup that has a screw on lid, but then about an inch of a raised edge so it's like drinking from a regular cup, but you get a lot less spillage because it just has small holes down at the lid. You could call your local WIC office to ask...I love them.

My daughter was picky too...she never held her bottle and she was 12 months old...I didn't think I would EVER get her to drink out of a cup! Her first sippy was the one made by 'Pampers'. The part she drinks out of feels just like the nipple of a bottle...they're wonderful and she had no problems at all adjusting to it...and she held it w/ no problem! I think I got it at Walgreens...but Target has a really big selection...and even though I didn't see the 'Pampers' brand they have a quite a few like it...with the soft spout. She was only on it a few months and I went and got the regular sippy with the hard top just to see if she would take it and she did! I think this one is made by 'Nuby' and it's spill proof. Good luck!!!

My dd had issues at first with sippys... I used the soft spouted kind and she would just chew on it. So I got her the straw kind, and after chewing on it for a while she figured it out. Then she figured out the other kind. She also drinks out of a regular cup as long as I control it. I don't think it matters HOW they are getting their drink, as long as they are getting it.

The take and toss ones have worked best for my picky girl. To start out I put a little apple or pear juice in with the water (1 part juice, 4 parts water).

I'm sorry you want to wean so early:( Try cups with straws like the Nubby cup. Using a straw is closer to the action of breastfeeding that sucking on a sippy cup and breastfed babies tend to do better with them.
