I have been admiring my 1 1/2 year old son's flexiblity and am looking for a yoga DVD that we could do together. Help him learn to take care of his body and get my old butt in shape to keep up with the cute youngster. Can anyone recommend one? I have looked online and haven't found anything. THANK YOU!

I don't have a DVD to recommend however "Wondernation" in Manhattan Beach has a wonderful parent & baby yoga class where you can meet other mothers and yoga-babies!

Hi B.! Yoga is an excellent choice for ALL bodies and it's great that you want to introduce it to your son NOW. I think it's wise to teach our kids the importance of fitness early on, especially in today's times, and yoga offers a wide variety of benefits in a very do-able form. Besides, his growing muscles and bones would probably appreciate it as much as yours would wanting to get into shape as you said. Depending on his attention span, you may want to get something geared toward you that you'd enjoy and may be apt to do consistently that he could join in with you, as all poses are modifiable to an individual's level. It would also be something you could both grow into instead of growing out of. Beachbody has some great programs by a few trainers like Tony Horton and the Yoga Booty Ballet series, which you can start out with the basics and build upon if you like. You can check these out at www.beachbodycoach.com/CheryLeigh, click the "Shop" tab, search "yoga" and you can read about them. Your son could do these with you and kids often like to take part in what you're doing. Mine often come in and jump in on my yoga or pick up some light hand weights and do a set or two along with me. If you want to find specific kid yoga workouts, you may want to look at the library first. If you're not familiar, you can search the whole system online and order from any branch to be delivered to your local one. Plus it's free and would give you different formats to let your little guy try out. Hope this helps! Please feel free to email me for any more info! ~C.

I don't know about yoga, but if you have a netflicks account there is a fitness section. There are a ton of fitness dvds (yoga included) that you can test drive before you purchase.

Hey B.,
There is a DVD that is available in Target (in the CD rack that is near the birthday cards) called Mom and Toddler Fitness. It's excellent! It uses a combination of yoga, pilates, and stretching and features a mom and her cute son Max. The DVD is put out by Parents (the magazine).

We have used 'Leaping Lizards' - its a really cute little kids yoga program, assuming they are still around - it was about 5 years ago that we bought ours. There's a yoga mat with all the poses on it too which both my kids have loved. Good luck!

B.,

Good for you for wanting to introduce your child to a healthy technique to incorporate into his whole life. And good for you for wanting to do it too and do it together, it is fun, centering and beneficial for all of you. Yoga Kids has out 3 videos/DVDs that are wonderful and easy to follow. We started with the first and then bought the other two. Our favorite is the original. Marsha and the Kids teach the movement and stretches as well as other kid appropriate facts (A is for Alligator, an alligator has this type of skin and can get up this long, etc.) Each stretch comes with a different kid and story or fact and there are nice original songs throughout. The Namaste Song which is in all three DVDs does get stuck in my head sometimes.

I bought ours at a local health food store. I think I saw them at Toys R Us or Target once, I was surprised. I think you can order them straight from her website : http://www.yogakids.com/

Our family gives them eight thumbs up!!!!

Enjoy

P.S. I am no way as good at doing it as often as I would like, maybe this message will motivate me to do some Yoga this week as well.
