Monetary Gifts for Graduates

I gave my nephew $50. But for friends children I given quite a bit less, depending on the relationship. A high school graduates gift should always be more that an 8th grade graduate. An 8th grade graduate giving tickets to the movies or Walmart gift card is nice. High School graduates are going on to college, 8th grade graduates are just going to high school and in 4 years you will get another announcement.
Take each announcement and look at who they are in relation to you and really go on that basis.

For 8th grade I try to give a gift card of something they like. I got one kid a gift card to their favorite hang out spot. He has been meeting my son there tons this summer. I've also done the movie tickets or itunes card. I don't give lots for 8th grade graduations - $30 or $40. High school depends on how well I know the kid - $50 or $75. We have a relative graduation from high school and they are scraping to get him to college so we are giving him more.

Just give what you feel is right. The gift police won't be coming after you. It's a gift, not an obligation.

We give $50 for close relatives and friends and $25 I-tunes cards for all others.

For highschool grads I try to buy them a t-shirt from the ocllege they will be attending. Usually costs less than $20 but is a special item.

Give what you can! Also being strapped for cash right now, we usually give $20. I'm sure the graduate will feel grateful for any gift you can give.

I am going to a college grad. party for a close family friend and am giving $50. For high school, I give $50 for close friends and relatives, $30 for everyone else.
Itunes gift cards are good too.

We usually do $25-$30 for high school, $40-$50 for college. Just give what you can afford, that is the best guideline to go by! =) Have Fun!
