There's only one book you really need -- Toilet training in less than a Day by Azrin and Foxx. Don't bother with the rest of them. This really works.
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find previous answers on the site.... my son has started to show interest in using the potty. However, I don't really know where to begin. Does anyone have any recommendations on good potty training books that I would find helpful? There are a lot out there and thought I'd ask before I bought any. Thanks!

im not sure about for boys but there is probably a variation of it for a boy! My daughter had 2 diffrent books about the potty....The first on we got her was called BIG GIRLS USE THE POTTY.....it actually went step by sten on what to do on the potty and then how to wash your hand after! Im pretty sure you can find it at barnes and nobles.....also there is a really cute book called Potty time with Elmo........Its a noisy book like when you press the buttons it makes noise to go along with the book....my daughter really loved that one!
theres another one that I myself have never used but my sister in law has and like it its called Im a bog boy now......Its a series of books It has the potty one as well as a big brother book......Hope this is helpfull!
My daughter liked "Time to Pee" by Mo Willems, she still reads it and she's been using the potty for over a year. I don't know how much the kid potty books actually help, but they don't hurt. The "Time to Pee" book has a sticker chart that goes with it-it has "Oops" and "almost" stickers as well as "good job" stickers. Before you buy "Potty Training in Less that a Day"-look through it well-it's very intensive and I don't think its for everyone. A friend of mine tried that with her daughter, she said it was the worst day of her life and didn't work for her. I agree with the one who said check out the library-they can help you find just what you are looking for and won't waste money on a book that isn't helpful to you.
There's The Potty Book For Girls , also The Potty Book for Boys. There is a brown stuffed Potty Bear that you can get that sings a silly song when you squeeze his paw. Something about being a super pooper and he kind of dances, at least his head bobs around, and he wears a removable diaper. Bribery (Gummi Bears) and a "royal" potty chair that played music when she pottied in it also really helped my little one.
I used Toilet Training in Less Than a Day, but I modified it a little. We didn't spend the whole day in the bathroom, but I did the snacks/drinks every few minutes and rewarded (with an m&m) for each step of the process (pulling pants down, sitting on potty, actually using it [seems like this step got 2 or 3 m&ms!!], pulling pants up, etc.). We did the "practice" after an accident a few times, but I tried to make it fun...we would go into different rooms of the house, and I would say, "What if you are in ________ (your room, the kitchen, the living room, etc.) and you have to tee tee or poopy?" Then we would say, "Run to the potty!" and we would run in and let him practice pulling pants down quickly, sit for a second, pull pants up, and go to another room. I agree with reading several books then doing what seems like it will work best for you and your son. Oh, he also liked the Elmo's Potty Time DVD. (Except we always skipped the "what do you call it?" part!!!) Good luck!
At the library are several videos for you and children. I think I borrowed them all! I can't remember the names of all of them but one my kids liked as they imitated the video and moved the potty chair from room to room. It was all about feeling comfortable with the chair. Big brother helped with that one. lol. Just ask the librarian for help and they can even reserve them for you if they are not available currently.
I used a book called Toilet Training by Vicki Lansky with both of my boys. It was a 2-book set with a book for parents and a cute book for the kids called KoKo Bear's New Potty. It worked for us! Best of Luck!
