We recently got my son off the binky which caused him to not go to sleep as easy though he still falls asleep well on his own.Saturday we are moving and he's going straight into a twin bed and the crib is going into the new nursery.I'm worrid he will either fall out of the twin bed or jump out because it takes him a little while to fall asleep without the binky.any suggestions on how to transition him easily.

What can I do next?

Bed guards or start him out on the mattress on the floor, with a baby gate in the doorway and making sure his room is completely childproofed in any event.

Also consider getting him a Cloud B Night Light that projects constellations on his ceiling, it will give him something to look at as he relaxes and falls asleep:

You can just put the mattress on the floor till he gets used to it.. Other wise, place it in a corner and get a guard rail..

Is he used to the door being closed? If not you M. need to place a gate there.. otherwise close the door.

Night light maybe a sound machine.

Keep a nightly schedule. Same time for a calm dinner, a quiet, calm bath, low lights, books read with no interaction..

Maybe a night light. or the sound machine with a low light. His lovey.

If he cries, give him a few minutes. Then go in and do not say anything just pat his back and let him calm down.

If he gets out of bed and out of his room, walk him back into his bed.. and tell him, it is time to sleep.

I disagree with Laurie A about placing it in a corner. If your baby is a restless sleeper he M. push the bed away from the wall enough that he is able to slip between the matress and wall and suffocate, but toddler rails are a good idea. But you're son M. still fall out. Mine likes to sleep at both ends of the bed and sometimes falls out of the end with no rails, however his is a toddler bed so he doesn't have that far to fall. Anyway you will never no how is goes till you do it. My son HATES change and we were dreading putting him in a bed, but when he went in his room and saw his new bed he screamed "woah!" and climbed in it and spent 20 min just laying in it, and when his daddy came home he drug him down to his room to show him how he could climb in it all by himself. He slept great that night. We had to unassemble to crib to get it through the door of his room and he even "helped" reassymble it for the new baby.

We put my daughter's mattress on the floor. No worries about falling off the bed. She never woke up when she rolled off. Also, after the bedtime routine we told her we would check on her in 5 minutes but she was to stay on her bed. Usually by the time we went to check on her she would be asleep. It wasn't hard to train her to stay on the mattress and she was very strong-willed.

The only thing I suggest is bedrails and make it a platform bed instead of using a boxspring, then it's not so high. It makes a world of difference. Also, turn it into a fun thing, new bedding, big boy now, and all that. Good luck!

We did the same thing for my daughter at the same age your son is. She DID NOT like the twin bed at all! She kept getting out and coming into our room. Yes, we had rails on the sides as has been suggested. She would finally end up on the floor. After about 3 weeks of us trying to make it work, I decided to get a toddler bed and try that. She loved it from day one---perhaps the height and size of the twin was frightening to her. So with the 2nd one, we went straight to the toddler bed. She hated it. After about 3 weeks, we tried the twin bed with rails and she did great, maybe because it felt more like sleeping in our bed. So. .. my point is, you might have to try some different options, but something will work! Good luck.

maybe start out with the mattress on the floor until he is used to it, that way if he does fall or jump it is a short fall. or, they have side bumper things for twin bed you can get. I've seen them at Target and at Babies R Us. good luck. we moved our oldest to a toddler bed when he was 15 months old. he did great. i think the sooner you do it the easier the transition.
