We are thinking of moving to Hinsdale can anyone suggest stuff to do for a 4 and 2 year old in the area, we currently live in Lake view and visit numerous parks with outdoor and indoor pools and there are lots of ballet classes and music classes etc, I am concerned we may not have as many options away from the city.

What can I do next?

Hi, we live in Hinsdale having moved from my beloved south loop area. I agree w/ the 1 poster that it does require a different mindset living in the burbs. St ill, it is a great place to raise you children. There are many many activities for the kids. I have a 6yr old and a 3yr old and they are in lots of activities. There is no indoor pool in Hinsdale itself, we have an outdoor pool w/c is great, it has a baby-zero depth area and sandplay adjacent to it, there is also a big kid pool w/ a slide and a lap pool. LifeTime Fitness in Burr Ridge has a nice indoor pool but you need to be a member. Oakbrook park district has an indoor pool , also a nice pool, and is open to the public. As far as music classes there are several options thru the Community House of Hinsdale(kindermusik) or thru the Village of Hinsdale( tot rock) or in Western Spring(wiggle worms) w/c is affiliated w/ Old Town Music, my sons did this and they loved it. As far as parks you will not be disappointed as Hinsdale has alot of them.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.

We go to a great dance school that has locations in LaGrange and Countryside (very close to you) called Impact Dance studio. They hold their mid-year and end of season concerts at Hinsdale High School and they pack the place. I've heard that Western Springs (the next town over from you) has tons of great kids stuff too. You'll like it there. Just be prepared for a bit more attitude, like you get with any so-called 'high end' neighborhood. Most folks are nice though. Good luck with your move.

Having grown up in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area, and now raising my kids in the Brookfield/LaGrange area (just east of Hinsdale), I can tell you that it will be a little bit different but there is still plenty to do. I would start with the Hinsdale Park District (villageofhinsdale.org) summer brochure which lists information about the outdoor concerts and community pool/wading pool plus aquatic special events. There is a Language Stars in the Hinsdale/Oak Brook area for foreign language lessons and I'm sure you could Google for dance and music classes. Best of luck!

There are so many parks, outdoor concerts, and park district programs in the area. We live in Willow Springs and have a 5 year old and 2.5 year old. Always plenty to do.

Check out www.kidwinks.com - it's full of things to do and places to go with kids throughout the entire Chicagoland area. The Events Calendar helps you find special events on any given day, and the Ongoing Activities area lets you click through to find all sorts of fun like museums, mini golf, indoor play areas, etc.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your move if you decide to do it.

We live in Countryside, which is nearby. I think your children would find plenty of activities in and around HInsdale. The park district there has excellent programs, there are ice rinks nearby, pool, etc.

To be honest, finding activities for your kids won't be an issue- moving from the city to the suburbs just requires a different 'mindset'! Your kids will adapt quickly, especially since they are so young. YOU might have a little more trouble- but Hinsdale has a nice little downtown area with shops and a Starbucks and Corner Bakery to meet up for coffee in. You might have to ride your bike a little further and plan ahead to go downtown into the city for a show or whatever. But living outside of the city can have its rewards as well.
