Hi,
My husband and I are relocating to St. Louis and are trying to find neighborhoods to live in. We have a 16 month old daughter and a baby on the way. We're looking to spend less than 200k on a house. We want a family friendly neighborhood with good schools and would love an area that is walking distance to shops and restaurants. Any help would be great! Thanks.

My extended family is from there and we go back every year for a visit. I would recommend Chesterfield area.
I've lived in St. Louis my whole life! We just moved down here 2 years ago.
Unfortunately, the housing market in St. Louis can get kinda high. It's really ruled by the school districts. So if you want a great school district you might need to pay closer to your ceiling budget.
Kirkwood is famous in St. Louis for its excellent schools and cute neighborhoods. Kirkwood is a very nice, family-friendly neighborhood. It's centrally located west of the city, but not so far out into west county.
Chesterfield is VERY nice but also VERY pricey. The schools (all the Parkway schools - West, Central, South, and North) are all very good. Chesterfield would be Parkway Central, but you could probably find some more affordable homes in the other Parkway school districts.
You are going to find an amazing plethora of Catholic schools in St. Louis. There are just a zillion, really.
If *I* were moving back to St. Louis, I'd probably look WAY west of St. Louis, in O'Fallon or Wentzville. It is not technically St. Louis, but it is definitely considered a suburb. It is pretty far from downtown, but if you stay close to highway 70 you will have a straight shot there and can get downtown in about 30 minutes. Anyway, O'Fallon and Wentzville are just springing up lots of brand new homes and shopping centers that were not there even 10 years ago. It's really expanding. Plus the school districts out there are top notch.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me here through Mamasource. I grew up there and I taught in a couple of schools too.
I have a cousin that lives there. They live in Crestwood now and lived in Webster Groves for several years. They liked Webster Groves but I think they were having a hard time finding a house larger than the one they were in at the time. They chose Crestwood for the nice neighborhoods and comfortable older houses that were well taken care of. They also like the school district, I believe it's Lindbergh, they have a son in 1st grade and I know they have been very happy with his school.
We lived in St. Louis from 1984 until 1991. We graduated 2 daughters from Parkway South High School. They loved the school. We lived in Manchester, but I loved the older neighborhoods like Webster Groves and Kirkwood. There are also some nice neighborhoods across the river in St. Charles and St. Peters. We chose Manchester because it was closer to my husband's plant. We really enjoyed our 7 years in St.L. We've been back several times to visit. My girls thought it was a great place to be a teenager! I would go back in a heartbeat, but I'm married to a good old East Texas boy who won't ever leave Texas again! When we moved to St. L from Michigan, we told our realtor what we felt were the priorities. We had come out of an environment of "too much money." Our realtor told us the Parkway schools were like this: Parkway Central/old money, Parkway West/new money, Parkway North/no money, and Parkway South/some money. I don't know how it shakes out now, but we chose the last and loved it. There are so many things to see and do, I'm sure you will enjoy the city. I especially loved the seasons. I miss that most of all.
