OK so first it was weird because my 1 year old baby girl Samantha goes to bed at 7-8 every night. but for some reason she didn't go to sleep till 10:00 and you could tell she was tired but she just fought going to bed finally she fell asleep playing with her toys in her crib. but before she did she would just start screaming cry out of the blue so i gave her Tylenol but she still would cry well, it was probably an hour or so after she fell asleep that she woke up with that screaming cry like she was in pain so i rushed over to her and took her out i tried to nurse her but she pushed me away and just kept screaming i tried her pacifier but the same thing then i just tried to hold her and rock her but nothing worked finally she just fell asleep in my arms from crying. i let her sleep in my bed the rest of the night but then she woke up four more times with the same thing? i don't know whats wrong with her she sounds like shes in pain but i just don't know where? i have a doctors appointment on Thursday but i just want to know if anyone knows what could be wrong or if this has happened to them? and what can i do?

What can I do next?

My daughter has been doing the same thing. it is most likely her one-year molars/teething. My daughter was inconsolable as well. We gave her Hyland's Teething Tablets which seem to work and also putting her in the shower or bath calms her and then I gave her a bottle, rocked her and she slept the rest of the night. Good luck!

My guess is teething or ear infection....since you have an appointment on Thursday I would wait it out unless its accompanied with a fever. I also suggest trying Motrin instead of Tylenol.

Teething, ear infection, sore throat.... all can cause those symptoms. I'd try to get her in today, she's obviously in pain.

It sounds to me like Samantha has an ear infection...My daughter Autumn she is 13 months and has had quite a few ear infections and she does the same thing as Samantha's doing when she has ear infections. The only thing I can do for her is give her tylenol until she sees her doctor. I hope your daughter feels better, from experience as a mother I know how hard it is on you too! God Bless!

i would say an ear infection! she probably finally fell asleep in your arms because she was elevated. sleeping upright for babies with an ear infection is very comfortable. and even though she doesn't have a fever doesn't mean she doesn't have one. the first sign of an ear infection in my 1 year old is constant diarrhea and absolutely no fever. try to have her seen by the doctor today.

Night terrors or ear infection. See what the pediatrician says. And FYI - Motrin works SO much better than Tylenol. I only use Tylenol when I'm piggybacking the pain medication. Hope your daughter can get some needed sleep tonight and hope everything works out tonight!!! :)

If she's refusing to nurse or her paci, I think she has an ear infection. My kids would both refuse to nurse when they had ear infections. Tylenol should help a little, but we always use Motrin. It just seems to work better. Babies don't always have a fever if they have an ear infection, mine never did until the infections were bad to the point of almost ruptured ear drums. I would see if they can move up your appt to today.

Teething? Gas? Constipation? Life will be filled with little surprises I guarantee you. Good thing you do have a doctor's appointment, but start thinking about some of these other things. The not nursing sounds like possible teeth coming in.Plus, other posters mentioned ear infections. Good luck!

Sounds like an ear infection. They typcially hurt worse when your little one is lying down. Hope she feels better soon!

If Tylenol didn't seem to help - maybe try tummy drops. Gas can be very painful & pain meds don't help it. Sometimes when nursing - you eat something that bothers their little tummies. My one son had issues with this & believe me it would get hard some days/nights before we tried the tummy drops. They were a huge help for him & me cause I could get him to finaly sleep & get some rest myself.

I agree with the prior posts. You didn't mention if she's sick or had a different routine that day. If you don't think she's sick or teething, then perhaps she is just overtired? I know when our kids get overtired they fight going to sleep, are very restless and fussy and wake frequently.

Sometimes a growth spurt or change in schedule will make them sleepier than usual, so even tho you tried to put her down at her normal bedtime, she still could have already become overtired. One is a hard age because they are so busy! And now that the weather's nicer she may be playing more/harder and just be wearing herself out.

Perfect example, our little guy has already had TWO naps this morning. Don't know why, but when he's fussy and eye rubbing I put him down.

Watch for signs of being tired like yawning, eye rubbing, hair twirling, fussiness, etc. or whatever your daughter does when she's wearing out. You can either put her down for a nap then or if it's after dinner/close to bedtime, start dimming the lights, quieting down and do a shortened bedtime routine.

I hope it's as simple as that, and she's not sick.

Best wishes

it sounds like an ear infection to me as well. my 13 month old daughter has battled through several of these and had similar symptoms in terms of sleep disturbance and distress. she and i both gave up all dairy foods and she has not had a single ear infection since. perhaps worth asking around about.

When my boys refused to nurse and had screaming pain, it was always an ear infection. Get her to the doctor right away. The antibiotics will help right away and she will be back to herself by tomorrow. Good luck! Its so hard when your little one is sick!

Oh, there are so many different things that can cause a child to be completely inconsolable.

Our kids never had issues with teething, and even ear infections (our daughter has recently turned 2 and has had 10, a set of tubes and an ENT appointment for another set today) never created much restlessness.

I'd recommend calling the pediatrician since this is uncharacteristic and way out of the norm to see if they'd like to see her and make an assessment for themselves.

Best wishes!
