My 15 month old will not go to sleep on his own. he will fall asleep in his highcahir, but never in his own bed. If I lay with him in my bed he will go right to sleep. I tried letting him cry it out several times with no sucess. after an hour of crying I get discouraged. It also upsets his father and 7 year old brother and leads to arguments between me and them. I am expecting my 3rd child in december and would like him to be able to fall asleep on his own by then. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help

There is a book called " No Cry Sleep Solutions". It is great. If he falls asleep with you it is ok, you just gradually move away. I plan on using it again when we finally move and the kids can be in a separate bed and room from us.

I found a great book at the library called "The No-Cry Sleep Solution". The author actually wrote two, one for babies, the other for toddlers and preschoolers. It's lengthy, but it has a ton of good information, and you can work through what fits your needs. It helped us tremendously....good luck!

Consistency is the key. Have a bed time routine that you do every night. Like read a short book or sing a song or pray or whatever. Then do this every night. Your 15 mo. old may cry for a few nights, but it does end. Kids are smart. They test boundaries even at this age. I know it's frusterating at first, but in the long run it will be better. I think of Nanny 911 remember how long it took the parents in the beginning 3 hours just to get their kids to stay in time out or go to sleep. As long as his needs are met, you are not hurting him. I really hope it goes well. I remember those days.

My oldest was the same way. I finally gave him a spill-proof sippy cup full of water and a toy. What worked the best were the matchbox cars. He'd take it to bed and play with it until he fell asleep.

My youngest did much the same but he always went to bed easier than my oldest. I had trouble keeping him in his room, though and the toy worked the same way for him.

Kids need to learn to put themselves to sleep and if crying it out doesn't work maybe the toys will. Good luck!!!!!!

Hi C.,
I have a 2 1/2 year old who won't go to sleep in her bed either, she has to be with someone. We tried letting her cry it out and it took an hour a few times. Lately she's gotten worse and she won't stay in bed, unless I were to physically hold her down and I'm not willing to do that. In fact I got so frustrated that I called the doctors office for advice. So far this has been working well. We started a strict bedtime routine. Right before they go to bed (we alternate every other night) we read them a story. Then we kiss them goodnight (the other one does it prior to the story) and tell them what good sleepers do and that we'll leave the door open. We also tell them that if they are out of bed, playing, etc that we will close the door for 10 min. If we have to close the door, we reiterate what good sleepers do, and close the doort (the hardest part is that we're supposed to ignore their requests, close the door and walk away). After the 10 min we open the door and start all over again. They sent a few pages of information to us that I would gladly be willing to copy and send to you if you would like. I hope this helps and good luck.

I don't have any advice, just encouragment. My now 18 month old just started sleeping though the night. I thought I was going to loss my mind. I have 4 other children and not one of them had sleep issues. It will pass, you may want to try oatmeal at night. I feed Logan instant oatmeal and I think it keeps him full through the night. Good Luck!
