See if he will nibble on frozen waffles.
Also, try to freeze a wet wash cloth and let him chew on that.

The cold helps.

My 4 1/2 month old son is also about to cut his first tooth. It is a painful experience for both baby and mama. I have been using Hylands Teething Tablets. They are a homeopathic rememdy. They seem to be working well. You can get them at a natural foods store. Good luck to you!!!

Someone else said to freeze a wet wash cloth, but if you don't have time to freeze the cloth, try wrapping a piece of ice in a wet cloth. Kinda gives the same effect. My daughter liked to suck on it lol She also likes to just chew on a wet cloth.

I agree buy the teething tablets. I have been using them with my 5 month old and they really really help... You can buy them at Walmart in the infant aisle near the bottle brushes and things like that. Keep them in stock..

Hello M., my name is K. and I was wondering if you have tried the teething tablets? You can get them at Wal-Mart and they are all natural. The girl that I work with has used them with all three of her children and is still using them with the youngest and she swears by them. Her husband has also used them for a tooth ache and said they really do work. You just put them in the baby's mouth and they desolve instantly. Anyway its just a suggestion. There is nothing worse than a baby hurting. Hope this helps K.

Try a "Banana Mesh Net". Freeze a banana and put about a third to a quarter of it in a mesh net(Babies R'US, WalMart). This works well because it is 1- frozen (the cold); 2- healthy snack; 3- the mesh net will prevent them from getting too big of a chunck (so they won't choke). And I also agree with the Teething Tabelets advise. They both work well. I like the frozen banana the best though! :-)

I agree with the other posts. The tablets worked pretty good for my little one too. Sort of took the edge off and allowed him to calm down and rest. I didn't have luck with the orajel, he would gag and then barf. Cold toys work pretty good too. Someone told me not to give orajel since they needed to learn how to deal with the whole teething thing anyway...pain and all. I didn't take that advice, I just stuck with tylenol and the tablets.

good luck

Hi, M.. Orajel and tylenol did not work for my daughter either. A friend told me about teething tablets. They have them at walmart in the pharmacy. They worked really well for my daughter. they do not numb the mouth like the other medicines. just put one or two at a time under his tounge, and rub them around. they will desolve very quickly. Hope this works for your little one. Let me know.

I was also going to suggest freezing a Banana! :) But for my son Noah we also bought the Pedialite (or however you spell it) pops and let him suck on those and it seemed to soothe his gums

My daughter was awful when she cut her first four teeth. I used tylenol and infant motrin. Motrin is great for teething because it helps reduce the swelling, it's made to help inflammation. If you combine them you can switch up. Use tylenol then 3-4 hours use motrin and then 3-4 hours later use tylenol again. That's how my mother-in-law taught me. Also, Anbisol Jr. worked a lot better for her than orajel. The orajel just made her MAD. The anbisol has the same ingredients, it's just bubble gum flavor so she loved it! One last trick I tried is putting a wet rag in the freezer and letting her chew on it. Or get one of those little netting things that let kids eat food but not chocke on it, and them but frozen bananas in it. Ok, well, I hope this helped a little. Good luck!

I love the Teething Tablets as well, works like a charm. I have also heard that a cold carrot works good for teething. Since he is running a fever, he could possibly have an ear infection. My 10 month old daughter has gotten an ear infection every time when she has been teething. One tip to remember that my ped. has always told me - If the fever is 100.5 (rectally) and below that it is a "teething" fever and treat with Tylenol or Motrin. If it is 100.6 and above more than likely it is an infection and to bring her in. Hers has always been 100.7 or 100.8 and she had an ear infection. Good Luck!
