My Almost 3-Year-old Is Continuously Itching/rubbing His Eye. Any Idea Why?

I too would say allergies. I have them and get weekly shots.
Try using a washcloth with mild soap and rinse them well. Also avoid eye touching (I know a 3 year old will touch everything). If you have animals after they pet the dog/cat wash their hands. Avoid what you can. If that doesn't work after a few days then ask your Dr and see what can be done. I know my daughter got tested for allergies at age 4 from a blood sample and they said when she is 5 they could get a better reading if she was allergic. She didn't have anything. My 7 year old doesn't show signs of allergies. Try the washcloth thing for a few days then go from there. Good luck!

Could be one of many things - a sty, allergies, ingrown hair, small scratch on his cornea - I would take him to the doctor, eyes are not something you want to mess around with as they're fragile and you only get two.

I give my 3-year-old children's Zyrtec OTC at the pharmacy and it seems to really help when the pollen is really high like now.

My 10 years old have the seem thing, it is Pollen Allergy, and is around this time when it gets it worst. It doesn't last all year around only this season. What have work for me is to keep close doors and windows in the season (dust often) and make my daughter wash her face everytime she went out, we also start putting the Visine Seasonal Itching $ Redness Relief and so far is working, but probably difficult to use in a 3 year old. Maybe you can try an Allergy medice for kids.

My kids had this recently. It's all the pollen in the air. They each got a bacterial infection where the eyes started oozing and sealing shut in the morning. Technically it is pink eye but shouldn't require any antibiotics. I pump my kids with Sweet Echninacea and keep hands and wipe rags clean. Sinuses may be congested too. I make a wonderful tea (safe for kids) with elecampane root for the lungs and sinuses. Helps everything drain and release. Also good for coughs. I would try some allergy drops for kids, homeopathic if possible. Rubbing it alot can lead to other problems/scratches that weren't an issue to start with :-) Is it possible that there is an infected or ingrown eyelash? I would say allergies, but it's peculiar that it's only ONE eye. If you still have any breastmilk, a few drops several times a day will do the trick!
