My Mom Has a Lump

Many women have breast cysts. It's very common to have them. I found my first cyst when I was in middle school. When I was about 20 I had a biopsy on it, and they said it was just a cyst and benign. I think it was around an inch wide. I also had more lumps in my breasts around the time when I had my kids. The mammary glands can become clogged. Even after I stopped breastfeeding I could feel it. Eventually it worked itself out after a year or two it is gone.

Wow, I will keep you and your family in my prayers. But let me ask you a domb question based on something that happened to me. Has your mom been in any accidents or had any falls lately? I couple or years ago I developed a lump about the size of a raquectball ball almost overnight. I had been to the doctor for my yearly and two weeks later found the lump. I did not put two and two together but several days after my doc. visit I was in a car accident and ended up several bruised where the seatbelt grabbed accross my breast. After the bruising went down I found the lump. It actually turned out that the accident had caused so much damage that the breast tissue had died and became rock hard. I did have the lump removed and biopsyed. I hope things go well for your mom.

I don't have any experience with this. I know my mom had a scare last year with a lump and it turned out to be a fibroid cyst. We were both very scared. I just wanted to tell you that I will pray for you and your mom and I hope no matter what the results are, you and your family finds strength and peace. I know somewhat how you are feeling. My grandma is 90 and has had a lump in her a breast for a couple of years. Only, she has chosen not do anything about it. She feels she is too old and doesn't want to go through anymore surgeries. I'm praying that she won't have to suffer since it will most likely spread to other areas.

I am so sorry that your whole family has to go through this. It is very scary and it's hard not to think about the worst when this happens.

I can only say that my sister, my mother and my grandmother all survived breast cancer (my mother and grandmother living more than 15 years after their bout with it). It's a battle that can be fought and won in most cases. Please remember that.

I have known several people who get cysts and other lumps that are benign. I will be praying for your mom that this is the case.

Marcia- sorry to hear about the concern with your mom. My family has had health issues for the last few years so I know what it's like waiting for doctors to do tests and get results. I don't know if your mom is open to natural things, but I know of a friend who took a nutritional supplement and her lump disappeared. Her doctor was concerned about the lump, but after taking the supplement, it is no longer there. If you would want to talk to her, I could connect you. wow, i'm so sorry! that must be so frightening!

i just wanted to say that both my grandma and my husband's grandma (also up there in years-- one in her 80s and one in her 90s) have both had to have mastectomies, (isn't that what it's called? they had breast cancer and had to have one removed) and they are both still alive and relatively healthy.

As scarey as this is try not to worry too much till you find out what it is, it could be a cyst, a tumor or a infection. If it is red painful and swollen it is an infection. You were smart to get it looked into as soon as someone caught it, even if it went unnoticed for some time. Please keep us updated I will pray for you and your family.

Yes, I just had my first mammogran done in february and they found a lump that was soild.It was really far in my breast and my OBGYN didn't find it either. I had several mammograms and ultrasounds done along with a biopsy.It turned out to be some of the ducts in my breast had built up tissue in them and I ended up having surgery about a month ago. I can't speak for your mothers case only to give you hope that it could be benign. Either way support is SOO important, I don't know what I would have done without my husbands and families love and prayers. Just remember as I had to that breast cancer is not a death sentence anymore. A lot of women have it and go into remission and continue living a full life. You have to stay postive as hard as it is, and I know how hard it is, trust me. You just have to have faith and keep the nasty thoughts out of your head. Good luck.

My mother did a few years ago. She's not as old as your mother. Hers was the size of and egg. Don't know how she missed it but Dad found it. My mother thinks your masterbating if you touch your breast so she never did it. It was a milk gland that was filling up and becasue she wasn't breast feeding a child it had no where to go.
Pray if that's something you would do and remember they can do wonders now days even if it turns out to be cancerous. Good Luck.

Yup, it's very possible that it's nothing cancerous. I had three that were called something like fibroid adenoma. I got them removed only because they told me that hormonal shifts during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and any other hormonal changes would make them grow. So I got them out before I reached any of those points in my life.

My mom has one that is the size of a 16 week pregnancy. The only way to get rid of hers is through a hysterectomy... and she won't do that. But it's nothing that can harm her.

As for the surgery to remove it... it was a breeze. I was in and out the same day and really felt no pain afterward. I was even outside playing with my dogs that evening. I was probably about 27 at the time.

I cannot make you any promises BUT don't worry until there is a reason to worry. The worry will hurt you more than anything right now.

I have a fibrous cyst that is spread throughout my left breast. When they did my 1st mammogram the tech panicked and then left me in the room with the mammogram up on the wall. I almost threw up, it was this scary white thing that had spread everywhere. Turns out it is nothing to worry about and I've now been aware of it for almost four years.
