My Toddler Just Climbed Out of His Crib

I was hoping to get some advice on what to do about my 22 month old son. He has just climbed out of his crib for the first time, and I don't know what to do! Can you ladies tell me what worked for you, whether it was a crib tent or changing to a big boy bed and a gate at his door, etc. Help please!!! I don't want him hurting himself as he launches himself out of the crib, and I'm not quite ready to be woken up at two in the morning by my little climber. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

What can I do next?

My son fell head first out of his crib at around the same age. Lucky for me we bought the type of crib where you can remove the side to create a toddler bed, which is what we did. That said, my son fell out of it the first few nights, but it was a short way down and we had put a comforter on the floor to cushion his falls. Eventually he figured out how to stay on the bed, and our life was much easier, especially when traveling since he could then sleep in any guest bed with no problems. He also never tried to leave his roon-- he knew he was not allowed. I would have put a gate up if I needed to but I never did. We did gate the top of the stairs near his room just in case. Good luck.

My son was in a toddler be by 2 years old. So they may be the answer. Many accidents have happened when toddlers crawl out of a crib. Toddler beds are close to the ground.

Good Luck

My daughter climbed out of her crib at 22 months. I was terrified and put her in a bed. BIG MISTAKE. Boy, did I jump the gun. What a nightmare trying to get her to sleep. Bedtime became a really long ordeal. I know that some people have no problems making this transition, but don't let crib climbing make the decision for you. A friend of mine got the crib tent. It was a miracle. Worked like a charm. Yes, it's a bit cage like, but her child didn't mind it at all and kept her safe until it was actually time for the big bed.

... Wow, i thought my son was the only one to do this. My son is sixteen months old, and he just jumped right out of his crib. IT didn't matter what I did... I took off the bumper pads, took the teddy bear out of his bed ... everything. All you can do is transfer him to a play pen to sleep in, because there is NO WAY he/she is going to stay in a real bed. They will roll around and fall right off of it anyways. The play pen is working GREAT for me, and ... ha ha... HE CAN'T GET OUT OF IT!!

My son could climb out of the crib, but didn't figure you how to and I wasn't going to wait around until he did and risk him getting injured so we moved him to a big boy bed just before he was 20 months. We use a gate in the doorway at night (close the door during naps as we did with the crib.) We did the whole room in something he's currently obsessed with (trains and cars) so moving him to a big boy bed was very easy.

Naps can sometimes be a challenge as his room may be "too fun" (we were trying to encourage quiet play on weekend mornings...but it backfired during naps.) But bedtime is the same routine, climb in, read a story, say our prayer and good night. Rarely does he climb out and if he does, he gets tired and climbs back in for night night.

We also found a really long guardrail to put on the bed so he won't fall out and haven't had a problem with that so far.

When each of my sons did this. it was just time for a low toddler bed with a rail on the side. At least that way the climbing out is safe.
