I got Motsenbocher's Lift Off #3, which I had to order off the internet. It took about 3 days to get to me, and got red nail polish right out of the carpet. I had previously tried nail polish remover, which didnt work.
My 2 yo got a hold of some nail polish and dumped it on the carpet, now there's two big silver streaks (I know, who wears silver nail polish these days?) I tried dabbing it while still wet but it didn't come out even the slightest. Any ideas on how to get it out without making it worse? I'd like to avoid smudging it to a big gray circle... Should I just try nail polish remover?? Please tell me someone had this problem and my carpet isn't ruined forever!

SOL-U-MEL will get it right up. No mess or smudges. It's a mother's life saver!
I wouldn't use nail polish remover -
Do you have RESOLVE carpet cleaner???? We have had LOTS of nail polish spills on our carpet - my dh would put a whole bunch of resolve carpet cleaner on it and then let it soak a little bit, then just srub the heck out of it!!!!!! After a few minutes of scrubbing it lifted right out - and it was the hotest of hot pink polish!!!
Aerosol hairspray. Rinse and blot with paper towel until gone, then wash. It works.
Would absolutely recommend you using Sol-u-mel! It's a natural solvent & has worked on all my spills!
I like the suggestion of pure acetone (although I have used Nail Polish remover on small spots of polish) but I would be VERY careful with the iron. Make sure it is not to hot. Melting the carpet or sealing in the stain would not be good.
not sure where my first reply went, sorry if this is a dup. First DO NOT place a hot iron over polish remover, even with a towel inbetween. Remover is a solvent which is highly flammable.
Try placing a folded paper towel over the effected area, and then blotting with a acetone soaked cotton ball. Do not rub back and forth or you will spread the stain and also potentially ruin the nap of the carpet. The paper towel will absorb the stain as well as any excess moisture from the polish remover.
I would highly recommend calling the manufacturer (if you know who it is) or going to a carpet store to see what they recommend.
If they're synthetic fibers (most are these days), you'll likely want to avoid acetone (nail polish remover).
With something like this, I'd say it's best to get professional advice so you don't accidentally create more of an issue.
Good luck!
Hahaha, I just had a bottle of bright PINK (yeah! who wears PINK??) on light beige carpet. This worked on my carpet, no damage and it came out completely! I would probably try this in a small spot first to make sure it wont damage or bleach your carpet, some carpets are synthetic and it can damage, but like I said it worked on mine great... I bought PURE ACETONE at Walmart, and poured it on the polish-not saturated, but pretty wet. Make sure to open a window, ventilate as the acetone is nasty!! I rubbed it around with my finger and then put a dry towel over the top, and a hot iron over that. The polish was magically sucked into the dry towel and the stain was gone after a few rounds. Don't leave the iron on too long or you could melt the carpet, and make sure the towel is dry. It's something about the steam that draws up the color-yes, towel is now pink as well! I then went over it with a mini carpet cleaner to get rid of the smell. Good luck!
