Name for Baby Due in a Month

After much deliberation with my husband, I think we've settled on a couple names for our baby that's due in about a month. I've been through all the baby naming books and websites and my head just spins every time I start to look again!

We're thinking Blake for a boy and Jadyn if it's a girl. Now I'm having second thoughts on both names. What do you think???

Edited to add: Thanks mama for the great responses so far!!! The popularity of Jadyn is exactly what had me concerned about it in the first place! I think I'm going to have to keep thinking about new names. I like the idea of going to the hospital with some different options! So in that light...anybody want to throw out some suggestions for names too???

What can I do next?

I love Blake! Jadyn is really popular. Why not Blake for a girl too? My other favorite girl names are: Amelia, Lane, Natalia, Gianna, Evelyn, Emerson, Avery, maren, Taryn, and Peyton. Good luck, let us know what you pick!!

I personally like more traditional names like Elizabeth, anna, Sara, Caroline and for boys, Paul, Ryan, Michael, George, Henry. Fast forward 23 years when she is handing out a resume for her first job out of college. Does Jadyn seem like a name that an adult would be called?

If you are comfortable with shouting it across a playground
if it looks good in writing (on the birth cert, a diploma, and eventually a marriage cert, a business card, etc)
if the initials don't spell out anything silly (or something that will make his life miserable in school)
then it's a good name!

It's hard to say without knowing your last name or heritage...

for boys: Gabriel, Graham, Nathan, however I think Blake is fantastic!

for girls: Nina, Gianna, Bella, Taylor and Alexis.

Best wishes.

BTW - we went to the hospital with our third still debating names. We COULDN'T agree!

You don't have to decide yet. We have 5 children and decided en-route to the hospital the name for our 5th. Nothing hit us just right -- I liked Ava, hubby liked Isabella. On the way, my husband and I were having a discussion about moving and I said "I don't want to think about that today, I'll think about that tomorrow" (Gone with the Wind quote). The name Scarlett just popped in my head -- fits our daughter perfectly. We now have little Miss Scarlett Isabella. Both names you have chosen are great. Have always liked the name Blake -- but remember you always have to see the baby first to see if the name really fits!! Just keep your ears open to names and places you hear around you. The name will come to you....

I always have to wait to meet my baby before making a final decision on name. With my son, we pretty much had a name picked out and once we he was born we knew the name seemed right. With my daughter, we narrowed it down to two choices for the first name and one for the middle name. We couldn't make a decision and I didn't want to until she was born so I insisted that we take our full list of names to the hospital just in case. When she was born, neither of the two final choices seemed to fit so we went back to the list and one of the names jumped out at me as the perfect name for her. My son's name is Alexander Charles (called Alex) and my daughter is Elsa Corinne.

So my advice is keep your options open. You don't have to have a name decided on before the baby is born.

People have such different opinions on names. My mother always suggested choosing a name he/she could grow old with. I think having a name that sounds good with your last name is a must. But most importantly, you should love, or at least really like the name. I absolutely love the names we gave our first two children (Annalise and Joshua). I am not so crazy about the name we gave our youngest (Brendan). It was the only boy name that was on both of our lists, and the one we settled on, but it wasn't my favorite. People are always trying to call him Brandon or asking me if it's Brandon or Brendan. Uggghhh! Now I have to live with it. So, if you are not sure, keep looking or wait until he/she is born and maybe something will come to you. Good luck!

If the popularity of a name bothers you, you might re-think jaydyn. It was on the most popular names last year. My friend returned to taking her daughter to her first day of kindergarten, and said their were several Jadyn, Bradyn, and Cadyns! It's a VERY popular name right now. There are Jaydn's all over the place here where I live. If it doesn't matter to you, I say go for it! If you like it, why not?

I like Blake. Jadyn is super popular for both boy's and girl's names. It's not a bad name, just very well used. If you really are having second thoughts, give yourself a few back-ups, but take some time so you don't drive yourself bonkers with baby names! =)

I think Blake for a boy is a great name. Strong. I know a million kids and not one single Blake.
Jayden is a different story. I know about 50 Jayden's, both boys and girls. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that name, I actually quite like it. But, I can almost promise you there will be at least 4 in pre-school or kindergarten in the same class with that name.
Jayden is sort of like the new Jennifer. I know at least 50 of those too.

Look, I had a really hard time naming my daughter. I wanted her to have my middle name, but dad was absolutely against it. He said I was just being conceited and trying to name her after myself. In all actuality, I wanted her to have that name for my grandfather. She was his first great-grandchild and he wanted my middle name to be my first name. So, I thought it was honoring him.
Anyway....she was 4 days old before we could agree on anything. Can you believe that?
If you really love a name or it has sentimental value to you, use it no matter what anyone says.
If you're not sure.....
You can always wait until you see your baby. Sometimes you can just look at them and know that a certain name fits just perfectly.
I poured and poured over every name source in existense and named my daughter absolutely nothing that was on my "list".
It worked out fine. Her name suits her. None of the others I thought I wanted would have.
It will all work out. It really will.

Best wishes and be sure to let us know when your baby arrives!

Do not settle. If you are not absolutely sure about the name then keeping searching. The last thing you want is to give your child a half hearted name and then regret it later. My husband and I did not agree on names at all so the name game was a challenge for us. When I had my daughter, her named popped into my head as soon as we learned she was a girl. The name took some convincing for my husband but he eventually came around. The middle name we used a combination of husbands middle Lee name and my mother's middle name Ann. I love Christa's story of how her baby got it's name. So I say keep searching and you will find what you love. Think about things you love to do, places you have loved to go, people that enriched your life. I agree that Jadyn's are every where, but if you love it then go with it. Once you look into that little face, your opinion may change even if you are confident with a name.

hey there C.. Yes it's hard deciding what to name your baby. But I agree with some of the other Moms, if your not completely sure about those names, then you should look for others. I do like the names you chose, but it's your baby, not mine. And picking two names and waiting intil the baby is born is a really good idea too. I never thought about that when I was pregnant. Good luck to you.

If you don't like em I'd say change em.
I honestly try NOT to ask others opinions on my baby names. I've actually had people say really nasty things about names that I thought were beautiful.

But that's just me :)

I say if you like em, keep them :)

I've always loved Xavier for a boy -- what's cooler than a name that starts with X ?!

For a girl, how about Audrey, Aubrey, or Audra. If you want a "J" name, J. is nice. :)

My hubby and I went round and round, and ended up choosing the very first name we had come up with. What's the first one you both liked? That may be your answer. Good luck!

I agree, if you are having second thoughts I would try to find a website or something else...just start a list of names you like and wait until your new baby is born for a name that "jumps" out at you from this list. I personally don't like either name, but that's just me...you need something that you will feel comfortable with forever and fits your new bundle of joy once they have arrived.

If you like them great, but if not, change them. We started our name search with the baby name books and brain storms. My husband really liked some nicknames, so we tried to find full names that we liked. His favorite nickname, didn't turn into a nice full name, so that was out. A random one that he threw out ended up being what we used, and loved it. For boy names, I kinda liked one and threw it out, and my husband liked it. They both grew on me the more I tried to apply it to the baby in my belly. I think it is good to have a back up and be open if the name doesn't fit the baby.

Well, since you asked for opinions...

I like Blake. I predict him getting the affectionate nickname "Blakey" (perhaps even called that by you?). If you don't like the idea of him getting a nickname, then opt for a name like Harrison or Garret--to me those are harder to break into nicknames. You didn't mention middle names... I think Blake with a traditional middle name would sound nice (like Blake Ryan, Blake James, Blake Christopher, etc.)

Personally, Jadyn isn't tickling me. There are so many boys with the name Jaden right now. A more feminine version (like Jade, Jayda, Jayla) appeals to me.

I like the names but if you are having second thoughts, you should continue looking. Maybe try to find a couple names for a boy and a couple for a girl. Once you see your baby, you'll know what his/her name should be.
Congrats on your new addition!

My taste tends to the more eclectic and traditional, and as both Blake and Jadyn are pretty modern sounding names (The name "Blake" actually makes me think of the 80's, though!), you might not like any of my suggestions. But, I'll throw them out there anyway.

Girls: Nell, Nora, Chloe, Phoebe, Laurel, Audrey, Vera, Maggie, Kira, Amelia, Corinne, Kate, Hazel

Incidentally, I love the name "Jaylin" which is a lot like Jadyn, but a little less common.
Since both of your names are also sort of on the unisex range, here are some others that I like that are "boy" names with a feminine twist:
Ryanne, Layne, Reed

Boy names: Arthur, Bennett, Vincent, Isaiah, Ivan, Isaac, Owen, Simon, Henry, Oscar, Oliver, Finn

Congratulations and good luck!

I named 3 yr old baby girl Jadyn and call her JJ. It suits her and I love it - but I think I fell into the Micehlle/Brittney/Hannah trap. You know every girl my age (39) was named Michelle. Every girl in my 18 yr olds class was Brittney. Than came the Hannas. Well.... now it's the Jadyns. There are several in my family alone - boys and girls. Poor thing is going to grow up in a class full of Jadyns. She's gonna be Jadyn k or the tall Jadyn, or something. At least she can be a JJ.

Aside from scratching the names of all exes and celebrities, and avoiding giving your child a name that is an easy target to get made fun of, I think the baby kind of tells YOU thier name.
I tried every naming book, idea, etc I could, but in the end all 3 of mine just sort of developed over time. I did try to honor elder relatives with each one. I took suggestions from family and when I heard a name I liked, I tried it on for a few days, thinking of baby by that name. Some were out immediatley. Some were so natural I just knew that was thier name the 1st time I called them that. Write it down. Look at the initials. Try it on for size. See if baby tells you that's his name or not.
