Native Born Needs Gel in His Hair, No Need for Haircut!

Hi, I have a two year old Aboriginal boy who needs some hair gel for his hair! We haven't cut his hair because we want it to grow as we are Native. We want our son to make his own choice when he gets older. Does anyone know what kind of hair gel is safe for a two year old? Are there hair gels out there made for young toddlers? What should we do??

What can I do next?

I used lots of products on my kids hair when they were little. I'd say use whatever you use. Just try to find things that dont have alcohol in them so you don't dry out his scalp.

What about using some pomade or hair wax type stuff. It works similarly to the way gel works but is a little different. I usually never has alcohol and it usually smells pretty good too, plus it doesn't make the hair crunchy.

Whatever gel (or other products) you use in your own hair :)

I've got caucasian ringlets, so can't help as to particular products... even though I'm SO tightly curly my neighbors used to line me up on the floor in front of the sofa to cornrow my hair along with their kids.

I feel you, though... without gel / etc to contain the curl... my hair will stand 9 inches out from my head in all directions before it starts falling from the weight.

I have an 18 month old little boy and when his hair was longer we put a little gel in it to make it look like Dad's hair. I just used the same stuff my husband used and it was fine. No allergic reactions. You could also call a kid's salon and ask if they have recommendations. They may have something with a higher hold that is geared towards kids.

I will warn you that if he rough houses a lot, gel will not last long! You might not have as much trouble since you may be dealing with hair with more texture. My little boy's hair is stick straight and blond like mine and neither one of us is lucky enough to have our hair hold shape if we do much.

We have always used regular hair products on our 3 1/2 year old with no trouble. I think the only problem would be if he was allergic to something.

Try to find some Argan Oil. My stylist recently used it on me and my daughter's hair. Ours is fine and straight, but it wasn't oily, made it really soft, and it held my style for the day (seemed to repel the humidity).

Just try to find something natural--alcohol free and maybe unscented. That's what my stylist told me when my son's forehead was breaking out a little from his gel.
