here is a great cake (white cake) and really good frosting. pretty easy to do but really, really good. I've gotten really good compliments from this
Best Two-egg Cake
1/2c. shortening
1 1/2c sugar
1tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/4c sifted flour
2 1/2tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1c + 2Tbs milk
Stir shortening to soften. Gradually add sugar and cream thoroughly (12-15 min at medium-high speed on mixer). Add vanilla. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Sift flour with baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with mild, beating after each addition. Bake in 2 paper-lined 9x1½-inch round pans in moderate oven (375) about 23 minutes.
Bakery Frosting
2 heaping Tbs flour
½c milk
Cook till thick (goes really fast), then chill.
1 stick margarine (½c)
½c sugar
1tsp vanilla
Beat at high speed on mixer till white and creamy.
