ALWAYS keep regular tea bags in the house anytime you have kids. I used to work for a dentist and a wet tea bag applied to the tongue or the lip causes it to clot asap. I've used it several times and it's awesome. Get him to suck on a popsicle too to help with the swelling

We are not doctors or nurses. Please call your pediatrician. I hope the little guy is ok.

You probably don't need to take him to the ER but call your doctor and ask the nurse for advice.
Give him some infant Motrin (generic brand since the recall). Be sure to give only the amount stipulated for his age/size on side of box.
Dip the corner of a soft burp cloth in ice water and let him suck on it.

Please call the pediatrician to ask what they recommend.

You should easily be able to get connected with one of the nurses who can advise you if you need to be seen or if you can treat with an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen) and cold compresses.

Hoping he's better soon.

I'm not speaking from experience but I would just call your child's doctor and see what they think you should do.

I agree that a doctor wouldn't really do much although it can't hurt to call. Give him something cold to suck on to get the swelling down, and maybe infant tylenol or motrin. My daughter cut her lip when she fell on her face with a pacifier in her mouth, it bled like crazy and she got a fat lip, but it was barely noticeable the next day. Any injury to the face or mouth tends to bleed a lot, even minor ones.

It is really good it stopped bleeding. If it is a little cut and he can swallow, breathe, eat, and drink wihtout issue, then he is probably fine. I owuld be concerned if hebit all the way through. But this is a common injusry for kids.

Ease your mind and call the nurse at your pediatrician's office and she can ask you the appropriate questions. I actually just called the pediatrician an hour ago because my daughter fell down the stairs. She barely cried and is acting fine, but the nurse whent through any issues to watch out for and i didn't even have to bring her in.

Our son bit through his tongue at a playground when we were on a road trip. We got directions to the nearest ER where they were very kind but could not do anything for a tongue. They gave him a popsicle and sent us on our way. I took him to our pediatrician when we got back home and was told the same thing. His tongue looked horrible as it healed and he kept it hanging out of his mouth. He ate lots of popsicles and weaned himself from the bottle.

i think he will be fine. My son fell once and bit through the front and back of his lip and it bled like crazy! Freaked me out, but by the next morning you couldn't even hardly tell anything happend. They heal quick and im sure he will be just fine.

Poor thing! My daughter bit hers back in January. It took a bit to stop the bleeding but I would call the dr. We called the emergency line since it was on a Sunday and she talked me through a couple of things. You just want to make sure it does not get infected. The tongue does heal very quickly like ours. Talking the dr's office was comforting and helpful. It may be that you just need to speak to them on the phone without having to go in.

I agree with the below. When something similar happened, we also gave our son frozen yogurt after to sooth his tongue :)

My daughter did something similiar and she actually had a slit through the tongue. When I called I was told that there is nothing they can do for a "tongue" injury and to give her motrin for the swelling and give her "soft" kind foods. Nothing too salty or anything. I felt so bad for her but it healed and you can't even tell and it didn't even seem to bother her but I felt so bad for her.

Poor little guy. This happened to my son but from the sounds of it, my little guy got it much worse. He was at the babysitters and fell against the tub. She freaked out, I came rushing home, blood everywhere, but ,y son had long ago stopped crying and was smiling when I got there. I did take him to the ER and got him checked out. They said there was nothing they could do, just give Tylenol and soft foods. They said the tip would either heal its self or fall off. It did fall off, just the very tip. He has a white line there now, but other then that you could never tell. They did say to avoid completely frozen stuff like pops, because the extreme cold would make it hurt. Hope he feels better soon. :)

So long as the bleeding has stopped, there's really nothing they would do. I'm sure he will be okay.
