My five year old has a pink pair of dress shoes that are very slick on the bottom. She loves to wear them, but she will slip and fall no matter what. It happens every time, yet I can't get her to stop wearing them. Is there anything i can put on the bottom of her shoes that will keep them from being so slick?

What can I do next?

My advice would be to take sandpaper to the bottoms of them. Maybe if you rough them up a bit, they might gain some traction.

My daughter had a pair of shoes that did the same thing. I rubbed the bottom of them with a coarse sand paper which roughed them up and she didn't have any more slips. Hope this helps.

Try the things you put in bath tubs maybe cut them into pieces then super glue them to the bottom. Or they might have some in strips that might work better.

I always used that stuff they used to like drawers and the like. It should be sticky on one side and have a raised pattern on the other.

Take either sandpaper and rough up the bottom of the shoes or take a steak knife and scrape the bottom of the shoes so that there are lines on the bottom. That should help with the slickness of the shoes.

Is there any sand left on the roads around your area? Take her out there and get her to do the twist, drag her feet, and slide her feet from side to sid until you can see grooves on her shoes. Even getting her to drag her feet on the driveway will help.

hi J., have you tried double sided sticky tape or even duck tape. my mother said when i was a toddler on i wanted to do is run, never walk so she put duck tape on the botton of my shoes. you just make the end pieces touch each other. i would think if you didnt want to put the duck tape all over the shoe than you could just put it in the areas that are slick. hope it might help. I would sand the bottom of the shoes on the heel and the ball of the foot areas lightly, jsut enough to give her some friction. Either that, or they would suddenly "disappear"!

J.-
I have found that with my daughters shoes (as well as my own) when you get the new slippery bottoms, that I take them out to the sidewalk and scratch up the bottoms first, that I don't have that slip and slide problem as much.

There are a few things that you can do. In the shoe aisle there is velvety-like stuff I call it mole skin but I am not sure if that is the real name or not. It comes in rectangles that you can cut to any shape and size. Another idea is to take a knife and cut up the bottom of the shoe. Just make some more grooves with the knife and that will help it not be slip as bad.

They have little stick ons now that you can put on the bottoms. I think most shoe stores have them now. They even come in cute shapes like hearts, so your daughter might not mind if you put them on. Hope I helped.

You can also rough them up by just rubbing them on concrete but that does make the bottom look bad. There are thin rubber pads that can be purchased to put on the bottom. They go around the ball of the foot area. They are made for adult shoes but I'm sure you could cut them down to fit. I would check Wal-Mart, Wal-Greens or any shoe store. You can also take them to a shoe repair shop and have them had texturized strips to the bottom but I have no idea how much this would cost.

Has she scuffed them on a rough cement surface? That's the way I've always learned to get rid of dress shoe slick soles. Otherwise, you could take sandpaper to them. If they are that hard plastic type sole, I would take them to a shoe repair shop and see if they have something they can paint on the bottom to make them not slick. Otherwise, you could always go shop for a new pair of pink shoes that aren't slick...why not some of those cute pink princess tennis shoes? My daughter loves hers!

You can also try hairspray. Just spray the bottoms of the shoes and it should do the trick.

Hi J., you can try roughing them up a little on the bottom with sandpaper. Just rub the sandpaper across the bottom of the shoe. It will take some of the slick sheen off the bottom and should stop her from slipping. :)

J.,
This is a long standing problem. However, easily remedied. You need to take a grater or sandpaper (which ever you have) and rough up the bottom of the shoes. You just grate or sand off that layer that is so slick. Not many people will be looking at her shoes and this is a great remedy for slippery shoes. We often do it with tap and jazz shoes to prevent dancers from slipping.
