Need Curly Hair Advice

I have curly hair and have finally come to love it! A couple things I've learned through years of bad haircuts. Everyone's hair curls different, the stylist needs to cut with her curl. Block or box layers work best, they don't give a pyramid effect (your hairdresser should know). I use Biolage Curl Creme, it doesn't get crunchy and leaves very soft, natural curls. The best thing about curly hair is you don't have to brush it during the day! Doing so will frizz the curls, so brush when wet, style, and go! Hopefully she will love her hair, every girl wants beautiful curls!!

My daughter also has curly hair as does my 4 year old niece. My sister has gotten me to use GOT2BE Curls Up Activator. Which gets rid of friz and activates the curl as the hair dires. You get her hair wet which I also use Johnson's Detangler spray and I love it. It just makes the curls curly and nothing else. I have loved these products and they make my life easier.

I have naturally curly hair, and I was hoping one of my kids would inherit it, but neither did! Your daughter is lucky! She probably won't appreciate it until she is older--I didn't like my curls until college!--but you can help by not doing what my mom did--she would drag the comb through my hair, which was SO PAINFUL! I haven't brushed or combed my hair in probably ten years--its totally unnecessary. Conditioning is the key. I wash my hair daily, and condition it, and then shake it when I dry off, and squeeze and scrunch the hair at the same time to keep the curl. Then I use a product called "C" by Modern Organic Products (comes in a small, round orange container--it's a paste). You only use a TINY bit! I am not sure how it would do on a baby's fine curls...you might just wait it out and let her hair do it's own thing until she's a little older. Enjoy the curls! I bet she's so cute.
P.S. The other thing my mom did that I would advise against is buy a pick! My mom used to LOVE making my hair into this poofy mushroomy hairdoo--so embarrassing!!!!

I'm a hairdresser with a 19 month old daughter with curly hair. It's awesome. Couple of pointers, never brush it or comb it with a regular comb. Always use a pick or a pick comb. They have larger teeth and less likely to seperate the curls which make it appear more frizzy. I always use a conditioner to keep it soft and never use any styling products on her. There is a Paul Mitchell product called Soft Sculpting Spray Gel that would work great, light hold and it won't leave her hair feeling crunchy. Hope that helps.

After you wash her hair and towel dry add a little conditioner to her hair and let it dry..

I have curly hair as well as all 3 of my kids. I also don't comb my hair, however a babies fine hair does require combing because it really knots up unlike grown up hair. The key is to only comb it when it is wet, use a leave in conditioner (Johnson's just came out with one for children with curls) as well as a detangler and start from the bottom of the hair and work toward the scalp. The detangler and leave in should be enough to tame the frizzies. When she is older you can use some of the gel products, but they would be too heavy at this age.

I have curly hair and my dd whose turning 2 and she frizzes in the back. I use fructess leave in diluted and it seems to help.I know that if you talk to people at toni and guys they will usually recommend something for them if your child has thicker hair then mine. I hope this helps and gl.
