L.,

Both my girls started with that over the weekend. For them, it progressed into throwing up through the night. Now, one of them (possibly both) has an ear infection - she woke up screaming last night from the pain. I'm taking them both to the doctor later this morning. I tend to wait things out, thinking an illness will run its course and it's better not to interfere too much with medications, but there is always a time and place for the doctor, and I waited too late this time. I recommend calling your pediatrician and seeing what she or he says to do. Good luck - I know it's miserable for your sweetie.

Call a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. No one knows more about drug interactions. I use CVS and they have always been happy to answer my questions.

If it is sinus - Benadryl will make it worse! The two are opposite drugs - Mucinex thins mucus so you can cough it up, Benadryl dries mucus up. It would be better to know if it is allergies, or sinus infection - would alter your treatment plan. Give lots of fluids - if he doesn't have a fever or other symptoms - I would wait it out.

L.,
I wouldn't mix the two. I don't like to give my children much when they are sick. If it's not Tylenol for a fever then I give them Benadryl. I usually let it run it's course and if anything see the doctor. I really think home-made chicken noodle soup works. My husband usually makes it, but when we are sick, we eat it and are feeling much better the next day. Also, plenty of Vitamin C.
God bless You!

Hi L.,

My doctor checked out my son and he had the same thing you are describing. Except on the cough, are you sure it is a cough with phelm? Sometimes after a runny rose you think it is in their chest and its not its just a raddle in the back of their throat. I though for a couple of days that his nose problem went into his chest but it didn't his runny nose caused him to have a dry cough and raddle when he was breathing. But the doctor assured me it was not in his chest. He told me to do a saline mist in the nose for flush out his sinus then for the cough to give him benny or tussin dm. And put a cool mist humidifer in his room to put moisture back in teh air. But if your not sure where his cough is coming from better to take your child to the doctor you don't want him to get sicker. But try those first.

Good luck

T.
